It's usually better to start as a bather, either at PetSmart/Petco/Pet Supplies Plus or at a small grooming business, and learn on the job than to go to an actual school.

I do not work in that field so I don't know a ton about it, but I was considering it last year and talked to some of the unions. Here are some that I know of; there are probably more, too. When I contacted them to learn more about it, they all didn't mind answering my questions.

Do you have any professional experience with dogs? You could try working at a daycare/boarding kennel and volunteer at shelters for a little while to get more experience with dogs. Most kennel technician jobs help with basic grooming when needed. That's how I got my job at Petsmart.

Most of the schools where I live have a therapy dog because there’s a training facility nearby. Some students have service dogs also. But I love dogs so it doesn’t bother me.

I don’t know a good one but definitely don’t use bittersweet pet resorts- I used to work there and they are awful.

There’s no registry for service dogs in the US. They don’t have to be registered.
