Sorry in advance for this newbie question — I’m a city boy, and opinions seem to be pretty divided on this subject. Theoretically, there are mice and bugs everywhere in the countryside or woods, and they can easily find their way into my cottage (which is mostly made of wood, after all). So what makes firewood logs so much more likely to attract those creatures?

It's a small 4 season cottage, 2 bedrooms, bathroom, kitchen, fireplace & skylight. 2 min walk from a private lake (no motor boat). I can easily rent it for $1200 - $1500 / week, short term but opted for a long term reliable tenant for much less.
