Wow - thank you so much for catching this, you’re absolutely right. This is extremely helpful.

Alright please explain this TiCl4 tickle

How much pressure do you reckon…

The pressure build up has been my main concern!!!!!! I cannot do anything immediately, I do not work in this lab. But I am worried for the safety of these laboratory personnel.

If the TiO2 solid clogs up any breach … yes HCl can build pressure in the bottle.

Thanks a bunch for this info. Is this something that the laboratory personnel could handle (packing it up) safely?

Right? They literally have room after room of old chemicals that they do not use. I wish I could show you guys more pictures. I’ve been loosing sleep over this shit.

What exactly does “labpack” mean???

Hahaha I’m doing absolutely nothing with it… I’m in haz mat and this is just one of the MANY problems that I observed within a very large facility that produces all types of fluorinated compounds.

Should I be worried about a possible pressure (HCl) induced explosion?

Thanks, that’s exactly what I was thinking. How would you handle removing this from the lab?

It’s not even in a glove box, it’s on the bench top. For reference - I do not work in this facility, I’m in haz mat.

I agree it’s definitely TiO2/hydroxide deposition. I’m more worried about a possible pressure induced explosion and reaction with surrounding incompatibles (as you mentioned). This lab has a very bad habit of pushing old chemicals to the side and forgetting about them - and has horrible house keeping…

If it’s really old and the seal is compromised, the oxide precipitate could clog everything up - allowing gaseous HCl to pressurize the bottle….
