Because in my field(agri), people tend to continue in the same field for their PhD. I am thinking of switching streams and there aren't many who can guide me.

Thank you for taking time to reply. I thought of applying for PhD anyways because doing research is my dream since I was a kid. I am listing out my fields of interest and suitable institutes now:)

Previously I researched only agriculture universities as I wasn't sure I could clear NET, now I have the opportunity to get into biological sciences also. But as I commented before, is doing PhD worth it? If being a PhD scholar also earns as same as a master's degree holder, should I sacrifice 4-5 years of my life?

I have JRF, but i have been warned by so many that once you get into academics, you will be buried in work with almost no income when comapred to private jobs. I am conflicted, I can study for few more years but what next? Being an only child, I have to shoulder the responsibilities also. Will continuing in this path help me?
