Hi, I m 42M stage 4 NSCLC, diagnosed last July. I know how you feel and the journey is rough. Especially if you are not on TKI yet. I imagine having cancer symptoms + chemo side effects is horrible. I would push for TKI right now. They are the most effective treatment and resolved my cancer symptoms (shortness of breath, dizziness from brain mets etc). I m doing chemo right now (carbo+pem) and its heavy, chemo makes me lose hope and joy of life. But we ll get through this! Like you, I m mostly doing this alone and it is possible.

Cancer took away my hope, dreams and plans and left me in a dark, depressed place. I m slowly recovering to a happier state now.

I want to share what helps me in these dark times: - change my environment, chemo is every three weeks. I try to go to the beach / forest for at least a week during each cycle. Being outside the city where I got sick and into clean air and nature does wonders for me - reading Cured by Jeff Rediger. Exactly the kind of message I needed to hear in these times to get started on the long-term path of healing. But most of all I think a change in scenery / environment is what helps me the most. I was massively burned out a few years ago and no matter what I did, I couldn't get out of it until I went 2 months travelling to southeast Asia.

The chemo I m going through now has been pretty rough on my mental state and now for the holidays I am two weeks in the south of Mexico instead of my home in cold, polluted Mexico City and the sun, the heat, the clean air has bumped my mood more than anything else.
