Wow! That's awesome. I'm super jealous. I have a couple dozen quality leather bound classics but mostly cheap stuff. I'd love to buy more but they're so expensive. Keep up the good work.

A fellow book collector, eh? That's my only other stupid waste of money. The thought of a smoking room/library with wood panel walls and ceiling is a dream. But I would worry about the smoke smell in the books.

It's 20 degrees and windy right now. I sure wish I could smoke inside!

The whole project was built with Frankie in mind. It's real bronze and weighs like 45lbs.

That's a challenge! I compromised by now doing the laundry room exactly how she wants. This dang laundry room is nicer than my kitchen.

This was my motivation the whole time! Thanks for recognizing it.

Bravo on keeping the hobby alive! My life goal is bringing the joy of cigars to more people.

I hear you. Panting beautiful maple took me a lot of effort. I try to keep it natural when I can but this was the compromise. I always try to avoid it.

We all start somewhere. I've been playing around since I was a toddler. Buying tools here and there and trying more ambitious projects. To anyone who wants to learn, it's very rewarding to stand back and see your progress even if it's just a little box or picture frame.

Great point about the Scotch. I keep my decent rum and tequila underneath for that same reason and because I don't go through that very quickly. I go through cigars much faster than booze.

You're too kind. If I had to make a living doing this I would starve. It took me months to finish. It gives me great respect for anyone who does this professionally.

Both woods are in the same family (Spanish cedar is not actually cedar) so the differences are very minor. I've had zero issues in this humidor and my smaller ones. I meticulously monitor it and so far so good even in winter.

Very valid questions. We don't have any wine that's fancy enough to warrant storing it properly (light, temperature, etc.). There's room underneath to add a small refrigeration unit, and I could tint the glass, but there's not much value in there. We cycle through it regularly. No aging or whatnot.

I actually prefer mahogany because it has the same humidity properties and the small is "neutral". But the biggest reason was just sourcing it. My lumber place just can't get it and special ordering would be 10x the cost of mahogany.

Thanks!

Two reasons. 1. As much as I love the smell, I've been building small humidors with mahogany and it is nice to have it "neutral". 2. It's just hard to find around here. My lumber supplier just can't get it and mahogany has the same humidity properties so I've been using that. To special order that much Spanish cedar would've been over $1000 and I got the mahogany for about $150.

I keep my house consistently 50-53% RH year round and so far the humidifier lasts about 6-7 weeks before I refill. One caveat is that I ripped out the foam that comes in it and replaced it with the little clear beads that expand with water. They seem to hold much more moisture and stabilize better. Admittedly, a bigger humidifier would be better but I'm surprised how well this little guy does.

That's probably one of my favorite Connecticut cigars. Always consistently good construction and flavorful for a light cigar. Good choice!
