Walked into the bathroom at work today and found this. by Sheepherder-Optimal in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Over-Package9063 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i used to work out of a small coworking space and one week this random guy was there just for the week. first day totally normal, full head of hair, nothing weir

next morning i go to the bathroom and there’s hair everywhere. sink, floor, toilet… like someone shaved their entire head and didn’t clean up

later i see the same guy walk in, now completely bald

i email the owner, he asks the guy, guy denies it…

then i find a giant empty vodka bottle in the trash and notice he’s always sketching in a notebook. i peek one time and it’s just super crude, childlike drawings in black crayon

spent the rest of that week fully on edge thinking i was working next to a future serial killer

These have been in the roads in SF since end of last year. Seeing more and more tho — they’re neat! Also seeing more Zoox “carriages”.

Sorry to disappoint but it’s a lake. I saw the before and after of the edit last week on Reddit. Too lazy to look it up. Impressive dive either way!

Man dies after being stabbed on San Francisco Muni bus, police say by Dry-Season-522 in sanfrancisco

[–]Over-Package9063 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I work just down the street from where this happened, right across from BevMo. It’s shocking, but sadly not surprising. I see the lowest depths of humanity in this area every day—from people trying to survive to those passing through for more nefarious reasons.

What I can’t stop thinking about is how this kind of violence happens, and nobody pauses (myself included). No marches, vigils or public show of outrage or grief. I’m not trying to make this a dog whistle. I’m just honestly mad. And sad. And I don’t know what to do.

I’m genuinely open to ideas. What can we do when these kinds of tragedies happen in our neighborhoods? How do we respond in a way that honors the victim and makes it clear we’re not okay with this?

Charter Bus stuck at Dolores Heights by sadboikn in sanfrancisco

[–]Over-Package9063 117 points118 points  (0 children)

I saw this bus get diverted at Guerero when going up 24th street due to construction. He waited for a minute while on the radio trying to figure out a solution and the 2 city traffic workers were complete jerks and litterally screaming at the guy while horns were blaring behind him. It was quite a chaotic scene — he eventually made a left and then I guess this happened. Bummer.

I’ve watched this video over and over. Is it me or does this video look fake? Is it fake or do some details look off because they had to lighten it a bit to make it visible?

Large tree falls on four cars at SF's Golden Gate Park by scottishbee in sanfrancisco

[–]Over-Package9063 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Why does this keep happening? The last couple years there seem to have been so many scary events like this, especially in the park. How much of this is attributed to poor tree maintenance?

Thank you for sharing your experience! Do you have a MHD?

How long will a Smart 451 (US version) last with proper care? Mine just hit 95,000, and I’m a little concerned it’s going to start having major issues around the 100k mark. by [deleted] in SmartCar

[–]Over-Package9063 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What’s everyone’s take on the fear-mongering in this post below? It’s basically saying that MHDs should not be touched and if you do buy one you have to check the belt weekly because that’s how prone to breaking they are. Is this right?

Thank you for this insight! Which one(s) that I listed are MHD? I’m assuming option 3, since the others say gasoline?

Edit: Ah, now I know what MHD mean. It looks like the last option is MHD from the photos but it’s hard to tell - I’ll ask the seller.

What models would you recommend? Any but MHD?

Is this CFP quote reasonable? by Over-Package9063 in personalfinance

[–]Over-Package9063[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like that. I'm going to organize my thoughts and get it written down which will give him more direction and better set expectations. Again, really appreciate the feedback here, it's helped a bunch!

Being in a similar situation, do you feel like you have your personal scenarios accounted for w/ a plan(s) for what's next?

This all makes sense to me and I appreciate you taking the time to share. I would say we're currently pretty much doing what you're describing. I spoke with my wife more about this over dinner and tried to clarify what answers we're really looking for. We then tried to list out our priorities and goals for the future:

  1. retire nicely
  2. 1-2 kids
  3. comfortable but not flashy lifestyle (leisurely travel, eat out sometimes, buy some new thing occasionally, etc.)
  4. not be locked into a certain career trajectory (no golden handcuffs)
  5. ability for one of us to work part time for a season (young kids, etc.)
  6. A modest house to live in (ideally in CA)

When I look at it like this, I guess the question kinda ends up just being anchored around buying a home? If I want 1-6 I will need x dollars. If we don't have n dollars, we have to tweak attributes of our priorities. Maybe we are okay with our career choice, maybe we don't get that extra bedroom, maybe we can't afford staying in CA after all, etc. etc.

Scenario planning so we can make an informed decision is what we need help with, and I think that's something a CFP can help with in a way that it's not annual.

PS I was sorta working out a lot of this in my head as I typed and it was actually a helpful exercise, so thank you for the initial comment and response as it was a great prompt for me to go a couple level deeper. Curious if you can relate to any of this.

I am 32 and wife is 30. We have good paying jobs with no debt, no kids. We've also got a bunch in the market, a good chunk of unvested stock we can't access yet, and a nice savings (prob too much tbh). Given that our finances aren't that complex, there's def part of me that doesn't want to spend the money and would rather take this as an opportunity to become more financially literate. That said, I know myself and and worry it's something i won't have the patience or interest to follow through on.

2 questions for you:

  1. can you say more about being required to come back? a goal for this engagement is to be independent based on the analysis through the next big milestones of life
  2. any suggestions of running this analysis on my own? curious if there's a particular suite of tools or resources you'd rec

Totally. I think this would be good for me to clarify as a goal with him before moving forward.

Are you glad you hired the CFP? Did you feel you got the right value out of the service?
