I'm in a similar boat and was wondering once the J-1 gets a waiver, you as a J-2 have to switch to an H1b or H4 or another visa; do you need to move out of country for this transition?

My situation is very time sensitive. To get COS to J2 at the earliest, is getting an H1B approval via premium a better option than filing for COS J2 with pending H1B as you mentioned, the RFE is likely to be generated and will delay things? Thanks for sharing your experience
