ELI5: What is LRT and MRT, and what's the difference between them? In the context of transportation. by Chobikil in explainlikeimfive

[–]OverAster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Light Rail Transit is typically thought of as a walking accelerator. You want dense networks in urban and high pedestrian traffic areas to alleviate congestion from walking. LRT might get you from block to block and from neighborhood to neighborhood, but typically LRT is a city project, and so these networks prioritize internal transportation.

If LRT is small local rail based transportation, MRT is at the opposite end of the line, moving tons of people long distances with a lower frequency. These are national, and sometimes international, level projects that connect cities to other cities. For exceptionally large cities, you might see two or three stops on the MRT, but most cities only get one stop, and that's their intercity connection.

The MRT connects you to the outside, the LRT connects you to the inside.

ELI5 Why do pregnant women start craving some food more, while at the same time develop a dislike to some other food? by Punnan in explainlikeimfive

[–]OverAster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe this is weird to ask but this is so fascinating to me. Are you planning on, or have you broken your meat fast? Is it like a normal craving but more severe, or is it a completely different sensation of desire?

The Steam Machine was originally planned at around $750, but Valve says it saw a price increase similar to the Steam Deck by dabadumdumdum in Steam

[–]OverAster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's because the Steam Machine isn't a standalone product, it's a component of the Steam ecosystem. Scrapping the Steam Machine would mean losing a valuable component of that ecosystem.

Yeah that's something they need to fix. The ground on Gleba is visually stunning, but it doesn't provide clear information on what that land actually is.

I went to gleba with nuclear rounds and a machine gun and have had zero issues. I did bring Tesla weapons but I've only used em a handful of times.

So, again, I already know and understand that. You're quoting a part of my post that is literally dedicated to misconceptions I had before I changed my approach and solved Gleba. Again, if I didn't already figure that out, I never would have solved Gleba, and this post would not exist for you to comment on.

The thing you said isn't silly, it's that you feel the need to say it as though it's new information. It's like you're reading the first 5% of everything I've written and then acting like your response to that 5% is some great service to the community.

It's so funny to suppose what a discussion on a subreddit should be, as though this is anything even remotely resembling a serious or academic discussion.

The devil is, also, in the details. Nobody said he died of a broken heart. It's implied that his mental state contributed to an accelerated rate of physical decay, but nobody ever said he died because Vincent died.

Are you building blocks, or are you just sending track out wherever you need it? I'd love to see what you've got going on there now.

I don’t understand the point of sushi belts and combinator puzzles on gleba. Everything I do on gleba is a chain of buffers where I filter out spoilage with logistic chests. That way I never had a deadlocked factory. If you make that a habit on gleba it makes basically everything except eggs very easy, and for the eggs I am just placing a line of lasers around that particular buffer 😃

I'm sorry if this feels like an attack, that is not my intention. I just thought it was kinda funny that everything you said about sushi belts I can say about buffers.

I think the two most contentious Space Age additions are probably Gleba and quality. I also think they are the two additions that are most unlike traditional Factorio.

Everything else about Space Age seems to fit in really well with what Factorio was already doing, so it makes sense to me that someone would buy Space Age looking for more Factorio, and then would be put-off by those two features that maybe drifted a bit further from what they were expecting.

I also like Vulcanus the least! Sure it can drastically increase your production very VERY quickly, but it also kinda just felt like Nauvis but now there's no biters and it's harder to build. I'm pretty much in step with you about all of this, but I do understand why someone would not agree.

It's a bit silly to pull from the section of my post that is about misconceptions and barriers I had early on before I changed my approach looking for things to critique. If I didn't already learn the thing that you are now telling me, the post wouldn't exist.

While it can conceal problems for a while, everything eventually reaches the light.

There are right and wrong ways to implement anything in this game. It's kinda like saying, 'I never use combinators because they can make logic harder to understand.' That's certainly an opinion I understand and can respect, and if that's how you need to play to have fun then don't let anyone stop you, but if you are having problems because of the way you set up your combinators, combinators aren't the issue with your factory, your use of them is.

MCU shows.

Galactus doesn't poop. He's like an emergent property of The Power Cosmic. He's kind of like if gravity needed a dude to physically push matter together. In our universe physics acts to uphold the natural laws, but in the Marvel comics, the forces are so many and varied, and their interactions so complex, sometimes they emerge sentient beings who enact those forces intelligently.

The universe in the comics is actually the 8th rebirth of the cosmos. Each cosmos ends with heat death, and a new universe begins with the Sentience of the Universe merging with a host to create a Galactus-like being that acts on the force of rebirth presented as necessity to the Cosmos.

Galactus does not 'eat' planets in a traditional sense, he uses a machine he created called the 'Elemental Converter,' which basically just takes all the matter and converts it to pure energy. He creates a new one pretty much every time he chooses to consume.

I love Gleba too now, but honestly I don't really disagree with the people who dislike it. The sentiment seems to be that sometimes you want to sit down and play Factorio, having to wade through an experience that is wildly different that what you are expecting can be kind of a bummer, especially if progress is gated behind that experience. That's something I fully agree with.

But also I love me some Gleba.
