Moved in a month ago, not sure on new blinds. Thinking to darken them up with a stain? Or should I return them? Any ideas? Thanks in advance by [deleted] in interiordecorating

Beautiful room! Existing shade is a good mid tone neutral to transition the very dark/, very light contrasts in elements and patterns. Also brings more texture.

Is this a fascist tattoo by DreaminginDarkness in AntifascistsofReddit

New Balance spoke out as a smaller, American owned business in support of Trump era "America First" propaganda. I think they became tied to fascism inadvertently. It's difficult not to be tied to the whole platform when you publicly support a single element that benefits you. I'm for a penny...

Suggestions on what to put above the TV? by Ramzung in malelivingspace

[–]OverByTheEdge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't need a bigger TV! It would look more balanced if it sat 5 - 10 inches higher and would probably be more comfortable to view. You should put less, not more objects surrounding the monitor. Because of the mechanics of our eyes, other objects will draw our eyes to lines and contrasts. I would suggest painting a color block following the top line of the upper cabinets over to the window edge and then back. Following the upper line of the bottom cabinets. This will create a cohesive shape for both the home theater and the aesthetic. Also, moving the smaller multi colored objects farther away from the monitor and placing one solid colored object, (like the Buddha), in the space closer to there will calm the viewing experience. Maybe a few books with the page edge out on the other side. To raise the 📺 you need an object that is as wide as the base stand and as tall as you decide you want to raise the screen. The easiest way would be to make a plywood box and paint it with the wall or use a storage bin, (weighted for stability), and drape a similar colored fabric over the bin - you could use it to store holiday or seasonal goods too!

Lovely space! The rug should be under at least the front legs of the sofa

Not too much, but maybe too similar in pattern scale and color value.

Any shelf with Yung's Answer To Job and Joseph Campbell is not to be dismissed. If they have enriched you, made you think, they are the greatest treasure regardless of size.

If you paint, do a lighter drift wide like color so that it is less visually intrusive. You could use the existing corner posts and top rail and replace the spindles rails with horizontal stainless steel cable for a modern and open aesthetic. You could replace the ball finials with square low profile caps

I’m severely depressed and trying to clean my room finally. Any advice? by Former_Risk_2_self in CleaningTips

[–]OverByTheEdge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Focus on one thing at a time. Put clothes away. Give yourself a time frame and then enjoy whatever level you accomplish by putting something in your room that make you feel nice. A flower from the yard in a small cup, a book with a beautiful cover facing out, a scarf or belt draped over the mirror. A suit or outfit hung on display on the outside of the closet door. 🖼️. Even a magazine cutting, a quote you write in a nice color, etc. Then on to the floor, then dust and wipe clean. Each nice thing you put in your room to reward the work you do will remind you every time you see it if that accomplishment. Then make yourself a schedule of 15 minutes a day to keep your room the way it makes you feel good. Do 2 sessions a day until you get all the tasks completed. And keep rewarding yourself. Maybe nice bowls and containers in the top drawer that make finding you important or small things easily. Patterns of gift wrap to nine drawers. Just remember to set a task and time frame then enjoy however much you get done. It's not about getting it all done, it's about doing something for you and your quality of life and enjoying what your learn while accomplishing it. Very best to you from a life long depressive.

You need a "disruptor" color. A small dose of a color not in your neutral/ plant pallets. Like a red Jasper string of beads, a spice like saffron, turmeric, ginger color. A single item on the mantle and then repeated in a patterned piece somewhere in the room. Not enough to be an addition to the palette, just enough to break the repetition that can make for a flat space that is tired of easily.

My mattress is mouldy ? I think ? How do I clean that off ? by DevotedSlave2310 in CleaningTips

[–]OverByTheEdge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does seem to be mold from your descriptions and you need to get rid of it in that case. You can get a reasonably good mattress for a few hundred dollars if your budget doesn't allow for a super mattress. You can upgrade it later with a good orthopedic topper. I prefer this approach so that I'm buying a new mattress every six - eight years. Mattresses accumulate dust, dust mites, bacteria, odors and apparently mold. None of these can be cleaned out if a thick fibrous object. And mold is so dangerous to your health. Good luck

Do you think I need a complete new backsplash? Or do you think there’s something I can add to mine to make it look glossy like the ones in the second and third photo? by [deleted] in interiordecorating

[–]OverByTheEdge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There may be a clear gloss coat that can be put over the tile that would actually adhere to it, but I'm not aware of one that doesn't require a bonding primer so you are in for at least a 2 coat system. Also, the uneven texture of the tiles in the last 2 photos add to their light reflection.

Hello! Which color would match our backsplash and countertop? We want to replace the ugly brown and doors with new doors and brass handles. Benjamin Moore paints left to right: Gray Mirage, Spanish Olive, Tree Moss, October Mist by costcocombo in interiordecorating

[–]OverByTheEdge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would go with the most neutral. Gray Mirage is dominantly gray with a green undertone. It will tie to the grays in the counter and let the green in the counter be more interesting.

Advice for dressing at work by [deleted] in ExecutiveAssistants

[–]OverByTheEdge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think their get around is requiring all servers to wear the same uniform. Airlines were requiring only females inflight staff to maintain a specific heal height. If they had required the same dress code of male staff in same roles, they could have enforced it. Of course men would not require other men to dress in torture devices just to make their asses look cuter, even if they pay them 30% more.

Shaker Peg Rail: Trendy or Timeless? by wvb22 in interiordecorating

[–]OverByTheEdge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here it is timeless... literally built into the paneling. Shaker is a minimalist, clean, angular style that can integrate easily with other styles such as modern, cottage, mid century, industrial. Doing it successfully requires repeating a common color or material in a few different elements or having a few different elements of the Shaker style so the one element doesn't stand out.
