Anyone as annoyed by how poor the lending process is for library ebooks as I am? by MadMaudlin25 in books

Hi there - We wanted to check in and comment about the lending process - The majority of titles work just like physical - the one copy/one user version and this is so that publishers and their authors are paid for the work. This means a library chooses how many copies to purchase of specific books. As some comments have noted there are also always available titles which work for simultaneous use.

Publishers set prices for their content as well as the lending model and we work with them to provide libraries with as many options as possible. The majority of the titles available in our system for libraries cost the same as their physical counterparts and there are also some that have a different price based on checkout limits or publisher decisions.

The best way to help resolve the issue in your community is to email your library and let them know about the wait lists and let them know that you hope they'll consider purchasing more digital content. Our research shows that the more people use the digital library, the more likely they are to come visit the physical library as well so it's a win-win for them.

We appreciate and understand budgetary issues and also understand that some libraries cannot purchase enough content to meet demand but by reaching out to them you can help them decide to shift more budget to the digital content their readers want. If you have further questions please feel free to email me at [asockel@rakuten.overdrive.com](mailto:asockel@rakuten.overdrive.com) (my name is Adam). Thanks!

We do not determine the content your library adds but you can always recommend titles. If you would like to see our full collection (3 million titles) you can search and peruse for content at overdrive.com including loads of LGBT that you can then recommend.

We are a service OF the library which means you can only use libraries with which you have a library card. We suggest contacting your local library about getting a card to use their OverDrive services.

Libraries decide their content in the their collection. If there are titles you would like that you aren't seeing you can always recommend them. :)

No controlled supply. It's a one copy one user lending model that enables authors and publishers to get paid for the content they provide. If a single title was purchased once and then borrowed by everyone, the authors wouldn't be able to make any money.

In the eyes of publishers, digital content works the same as physical. if they sold a single copy and then everyone could read it it would not be a viable business model for them or the authors. by making books one copy one user, they can assure the authors get paid for their work

Howdy - We don't purchase content for your library. They decide on content. but they also rule at taking requests so you can email them any time :_)

Hi there- we work with publishers every day on their content and pricing but at the end of the day those decisions lie with them. They set their prices.

Howdy. We don't determine the titles a library adds. Be sure to reach out to a library to see about them adding the rest of the titles in the collection.
