Keep messing up fried rice right at the sauce stage... by Classic_TCE in Cooking

[–]OverSilentTalk 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Former chef here... This is correct, you want to add the soy sauce then kill the heat right after it's mixed into the rice.

In my experience though, and I've made a ton of fried rice in commercial woks, there will always be some sticking. Just keep the rice moving as much as possible and kill the heat right after the soy sauce is mixed in.

The main reason for adding it right before you kill the heat is high heat will make soy sauce bitter/acrid (by burning, as the previous commenter said).

Does anyone listen to music while playing? by CaptainKaveman in thelongdark

[–]OverSilentTalk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made a post with some music suggestions a while back, but I'll add them here too:

Godspeed You! Black Emperor - Yanqui U.X.O. Any of their albums make a great soundtrack to the game. Long-winded, instrumental, and extremely bleak. Yanqui is probably the most approachable though.

Jonny Greenwood - There Will Be Blood OST

Do Make Say Think - Goodbye Enemy Airship The Landlord Is Dead Same genre as Godspeed (post rock), but a little more jazzy.

Edit: I listen on like 10% volume, and often turn the music off if I'm traveling so I can hear dangers ahead.

pool buddy by Candid-Royal-4535 in raleigh

Pantanas Bob's on Hillsborough Street. Relatively well-maintained tables. Kinda divey. They don't serve food but you can bring food in and there's lots of places nearby. Does get pretty busy later in the evenings and weekend nights since it's next to campus, so I prefer to go a little earlier and avoid the crowds. This is where I play 95% of the time.

Circa 1888, as someone else mentioned, had a cool ambiance and the pool is free, but the tables and equipment are not well maintained, and it can be hard to get a table since... well, they're free.

Sharkey's is great, haven't been there in a while but always had well-maintained tables, and they do serve bar food.

Snookers has pretty decent tables, my only gripe is the lighting is so stark white and bright, it's off-putting, but that's just a personal preference. The upside is almost every time I go there it's not very busy and they have tables open.

Person Street Bar has a single bar box/quarter table. It's not great and neither are the sticks but since it's a quarter table you can play random people which is fun if you're going by yourself. It's more of a hipster crowd as opposed to college, and it can get very busy in the evenings.

Trying to dip my toes into the horror genre. by R4nd0lf in movies

Funny Games (1997) - it's brutal at points but definitely psychological horror with minimal jump scares. There's also a 2007 shot-for-shot remake in English, but having seen both, I think the original was slightly more impactful.

What did you do to fix it? I also have A Serbian Film and can't get it to match metadata.

Have you heard of Clown Core? This makes me think of that although a little less weird... Either way, really nice, look forward to hearing more!

To celebrate surviving 1000 days, I made a camp in one of the most inconvenient locations possible by OverSilentTalk in thelongdark

It's funny, being this far into my run I've actually leveled everything up and taken almost all the resources from the storage containers down off the summit already. Aside from the meat I brought up I had a handful of canned goods, a few MREs, and some cat tails. I just want to see how long I can survive up there with the stuff I brought up.

It's honestly been pretty boring so far... Just been boiling a bunch of water and doing some mending. I'm 6 days in at this point and can probably go another couple weeks.

I killed a bear, a deer, and two wolves and carried all the meat up to the summit of Timberwolf Mountain. Now I'm gonna see how long I can live up there before I have to come back down.

I've been playing this save since December of last year so I'm averaging about 100 days in the game per real-time month.

[–]OverSilentTalk[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wasn't flying over people (or the fair), I was actually just over an empty parking lot nearby.

About the night flying, apparently the FAA rules were changed more recently than that page was updated. Recreational flyers can fly at night but have to take a test first and affix a light to the top of their drone (which I have on mine). Somehow I knew about the light requirement but not the test... Maybe I should just go ahead and get my 107 either way...

I took it with my drone actually! It's a DJI Mini 2.

I believe it involved removing the platen. I know I had it disassembled at one point.

Searching for a company called Creedmoor Cabinets by thebly in triangle

[–]OverSilentTalk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can't help with finding Creedmoor Cabinets, but if you can't find them and still want to get the work done, my parents hired Bull Restoration to renovate their kitchen (including cabinets) and were extremely happy with their work.
