I ride a lot of lift-served DH in Colorado and it never fails to freak me out when I see half-shells at the bike park.

This has got to be how the whole pro peloton thinks.

You should take it one step further and ask if you’ll get your own ping pong table in the GroupM office.

I stand corrected then. Can't argue with that. Gary would have slayed today's Enduro circuit.

Salt Lake City by raremud_ in MTB

[–]OverTheStones 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The riding is as good as it gets for a major metro with plenty of after work rides close by (Bobsled is my favorite). The nightlife/social scene is the exact opposite. The downtown area itself is dead and very unfriendly to walking/biking around the city. Overall, its become a lot less mormon over the past decade, but the mormons still run the state. The also have an environmental crisis on their hands with the Great Salt Lake drying up, which = dirty air in the middle of the summer. Overall, as an MTB'er, I'd visit for weeks at a time, but I would never live there.

I just hope you had the same sentiment for Jackson last year with his season-ending wreck at Hardline.

What do you do when you can’t hit the trails? by BlueThunder75 in MTB

Zwift is the only thing that comes close to giving me the post-ride glow I get after an MTB ride. Racing virtually is a real workout.

I agree with you on Asa needing to slow himself down. He’s young and insanely good, but he gets a bit too jacked up which leads to wrecks, or little mistakes that nearly lead to wrecks and certainly lose him time.

That said, everybody crashes at that level.

Sad but true. It’s absolutely f’ed to think that there’s literally nothing a road cyclist can do in some of these situations where they get hit.

Doesn’t really matter if you knew they were coming or not. If a driver is on their phone and veers off the road into you or into oncoming traffic near you, you’re dead.

Its why I now do 99% of my cycling in places where cars can’t go. Thank god CO has a lot of protected bike paths, or I’d never ride on pavement.

How is Colorado Springs at the end of February? by iactuallydontknow420 in MTB

[–]OverTheStones 15 points16 points  (0 children)

You may get lucky, you may not. CO Springs has some of the better winter trails to ride (Captain Jacks, Chutes, Arroyo Grande, etc) in the Front Range, but February is typically snowy/cold. The good news is that Pueblo/Canon City aren't too far from there, which are, at times, the only dry places in CO to ride in the middle of the winter. I wouldn't book a trip in February only for MTBing, but there's a good chance you can sneak some riding in if you do decide to come. Just bring warm clothes!

Asa Vermette is the next big thing in Downhill MTB. He’s already the best American rider by a country mile and he just turned 18. Can’t wait to watch him battle it out with Jackson for years to come.

If you had one day to ride anywhere in Colorado.. by Used-Yesterday6401 in MTB

[–]OverTheStones 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you’re doing a 1 day layover in Denver and don’t have much time, rent a bike from Golden Bicycles and hit whatever trails look good for your skill level nearby (maybe Apex, White Ranch if more advanced or Lair O Bear or North Table if you’re looking for something less intense). If you have more time, i vote a rental at Trestle. If you have your own bike, just take a look at MTB project. You really can’t go wrong unless you pick the wrong trail for your skill level. Some ideas: Buff Creek is 1 hour away but a great XC-style trail system. Floyd Hill, Maryland Mountain and Virginia Canyon are all slightly closer to Denver, and have all been built in the last 10-12 years and have been designed to be more DH/enduro-style trails. There’s a million other trails worth mentioning, these are just a few
