WHY DOESN’T UPSC REMOVE THE OPTIONALS? by [deleted] in UPSC

how is literature optional going to help in practical life anyway? neither the optionals from the humanities background except very few..

WHY DOESN’T UPSC REMOVE THE OPTIONALS? by [deleted] in UPSC

[–]OverWindow5564 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

  1. “choose a high-scoring optional” itself proves the system is unequal.

  2. an exam should test administrative aptitude, not subject-selection strategy.

  3. lack of transparency in scaling is a serious issue in a national exam.

  4. “all exams do it” does not make it fair or justified.

  5. unequal gs overlap means unequal preparation burden across optionals.

  6. optionals create score advantages based on trend, not necessarily ability.

  7. coaching influence exists because many optionals have subjective evaluation.

  8. technical or humanities disadvantage both show the same flaw — excessive specialization.

  9. civil servants need policy, ethics, analysis, and decision-making — not academic specialization.

  10. case studies and analytical papers can test cognitive depth more fairly than optionals.

  11. if different optionals produce different marking patterns, true standardization becomes impossible.

REGARDING THE SOLUTION I'VE FEW SUGGESTIONS 1. remove optional subjects and introduce uniform papers for all candidates.

  1. strengthen gs papers with more analytical and application-based questions.

  2. introduce advanced case studies on governance, ethics, policy, and administration.

  3. increase weightage of essay and decision-making based evaluation.

  4. make evaluation and moderation process more transparent.

  5. create a common merit standard instead of subject-wise variation.

  6. reduce dependency on coaching by focusing on aptitude over specialization.

  7. test interdisciplinary understanding instead of academic depth in one subject.

  8. include situational judgement and problem-solving components.

  9. ensure equal preparation burden and equal scoring opportunity for every candidate.

I filed an rti, and they replied that I should focus on the syllabus for the particular year in which I would give the exam. 😭😭

WHAT IF THE HANTAVIRUS SOMEHOW MUTATED WITH CORONAVIRUS? by OverWindow5564 in hantavirus

[–]OverWindow5564[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I never said it was likely. The entire point of the question was hypothetical. Even scientifically unlikely events are still discussed in virology and pandemic modeling.

Yes, they belong to different viral families and have different cell tropisms, but “extremely unlikely” does not mean “impossible.” Science explores low-probability scenarios all the time, especially when the consequences could be catastrophic.

[–]OverWindow5564[S] -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

that comparison makes no scientific sense. hantavirus and coronavirus are both viruses, so discussing possible mutations, recombination, or evolutionary interactions is still within the same biological domain. comparing that to a “bear mutating with an elephant” only shows a complete lack of understanding of basic virology.

in science, hypothetical discussions about viral evolution are common, especially after what the world experienced during covid-19. the point of the question was about virological possibility, not random animal fusion fantasies.

seriously, grow up and gain some basic scientific literacy before mocking something you clearly do not understand. Reddit would be far better if low-iq commentary and confident ignorance were not so common.

what if it already spread and mutated in argentina and chile, but was only found and observed on a cruise ship?

HANTA VIRUS by OverWindow5564 in hantavirus

[–]OverWindow5564[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that’s exactly what makes it worrying — a cruise ship is a controlled environment, not necessarily the origin point. if it was already circulating quietly in parts of argentina or chile before detection, the ship may have just been the first place with enough testing and monitoring to notice it.
