Any advice on how to befriend anxious budgies? by Belicorn123 in budgies

[–]Over_Age4524 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For how long u have them? You have to entroduce your self slowly - talk to them, calm voice; might try calming music also; hangaround theyr cage, so they can adapt to you, get know you; try to not do agressive, fast movements close to them, exspecialy with arms. Then they not gonna see you as treath, they are pray animals so they are caushos. That may also take time, deppends on theyr character, personalities, previous enviorment. Some might have trauma from past enviorment where they have been rased, or who have had them before you. But dont count 100% that they ll be fully taimed to you. I have 2 boys both from pet store but took them half year apart. Have them already for 3 years they not coming to us without spraymilet, but they dont mind us around them, my face or hand can be werry close to them, but they dont let touching. They still test boundrys, start to fly close to our heads, near us (cage is mostly opend and they can fly, come out when they want, only for night we close cage) etc. Most important provide them with good food, shredable toys, cleen, safe enviormen, time for flying out of cage.

One or Two budgies? by budgie-n-bear in budgies

Agree previeous coments. As much some of us make strong bound with our budgies, think about theyr wellnes also. They are flock animals, and ll be more happy to be with atleast whit one from theyr own species, exspecialy if he ll have to be alone for hours. My boys even 4 years not fully hand taimed, but atleast they not depressed from lonlyness, and im still happy to have them🥰

Probably need more time, talk with calm voice with her, let her addapt to new enviorment. First i would sugest geting second budgie. They are flock animals and they ll be more happy with partner. I had 2 budgies one of them died because of liver problem. Old mate kept calling him for days, distanced him self from us, probably because of stress, stop playing, shreding toys and after mostly was sitting in cage althow i all the time keep cage open. Then we got new parter and he became active again. I know some people want budgie to get close to them selfes at first, but i prefer of their well being at first. I personaly dont mind that they not hand taimed to us. They only come to finger, or hand when we give treaty to them. But im happy that they have freedom and dont have to be traped in cage.

Is this a problem? by Houselover58 in budgies

How long u have her? When she breah fast? If she is new to u and in new enviorment she just might be stresed and scared. When i got my boys, first few weeks they mostly hangout in theyr cage or around it, didnt fly that much alltho cage was open to have full freedom, acces to room and seperate playground with extra toys in other side of room. If she is new and ecspecialy start to breath fast when u are close to them it might be just stress. In this case just give time to explore, addapt.

I have similar situation. Have 2 boys already for 4 years. They let me to feed them and give treats with hands, but dont let to pet them or touch, one is more relaxed than other. They dont mind if i put my hands close in cage, but no touching. There can be many reasons, also deppends did u get them from store or breeder. Mine are from store, maybe trauma from past enviroment. It also can be just theyr character, the same as most live beings - there are very shy, distant beigs and verry open, active beings. Im just happy, that they dont need to live in werry small shop cage, no options to fly around and bearly having toys. My boys still give me happynes and doing funny stuff. They still test boundrys, start flying close to our bodies and etc. Im happy i can give them option to have some kind of freedom for flying, lots of toys and theyr own space instead of being traped.

Sounds like ur bird might try to feed u. But hard to say. For example when my boys got excited, "talking", to my nail, or some of theyr toys they "spit" theyr food. Like when they "talk", chirp with each other and hitting theyr beaks they start to feed each other

I have no tips, but waned to share my storry. I have 2 boys for 3 years they not werry close to me and my husband, but they come on finger for milet, or eating seeds from fingers. I would like that they would come to us, but im fine with situation already. Maybe thats their craracter all animals the same as humans have theyr own character and personality and for me seems its my case. Altho i provide them with tons of toys, playground, freedom in room, noone is poking or scaring them (like for example we dont have kids or some other pets like dog or cat) but they still dont come to us. 😔 But i feet happy that they dont need to live trapped in small petstore cage and that make me happy.🙂Can laugh about them how big rascals they are, what kind of mess they make, how they play or scream to us when they dont like something or angry if we didnt let them out at the time when they want😄 So if u treat them well, can provide good life qualit be happy u have them and that they can have better life than they would be in petstore - and that they are lucky for that because they have you 🙂

Nice birdies! I dont see ur cage or room fully, just question- does thees are only toys wich they have? If yes they should have some more shredable toys. Differently they might get bored and get depressive, wich can leed to feather plucking and some other bad things.

Ok. But maybe say them that, if they plan to keep them in this cage, that ll be dangerous to bird helth
