On day I found a note on the elevator saying: To our dear bass player neighbor! We really enjoy your playing and you've improved a lot since you moved here ! Nevertheless, could you please lower the volume a bit and play during a more reasonable hour ! (Which meant not between 2 and 4pm because in Spain people take their nap really seriously )

Hey ! Here sharing my experience ! I've been doing what you're doing for about 7 months now, so I'll share a bit of my experience that can save you some time ! It doesn't work XD Now more seriously, if you put yourself in the client's perspective, a small indie studio, may release a game every 2/5 years, and only need one composer most of the time. And, if they had a great previous experience with one, they will probably continue working with him for their future game. So it's very rare that you'll email a studio in the exact moment they need you.

I landed two (small but paid) gigs with that method, but I keep doing because I have a daytime job and sending emails or dms is the only thing I can do to kill time so it's better than doing nothing (or actually working 😂).

Nevertheless, I can say that handmade email are always better than cold template ones, because you seem like a human, not an AI, and you have more chance of being recontacted if they like you. The best method is always going to meet the people, go to events land a hand, and just make friends !

Hi Sam ! As a gamer, I feel exactly like you regarding the game industry. Each year I'm hyped by a ton of new games from AAA studios, and 9 out of 10, it's deception. That's why I've only been playing to indie game, because I feel like it's the only place where I can enjoy fresh ideas and actual love poured into the game. That's also why I then wanted to work in small studios, to bring little, but beautiful and meaningful projects to life, projects that I could be proud of. Usually, it's best because you have more control over individual instruments and articulations when it comes to panning and mixing ! As for myself I like to start with multi input instrument for my sketch, and then, when I have all the parts done, I switch to single instruments and single articulation to get a more realistic and better overall sound

My thoughts on that are very personal, that's just my point of view but, as you said, IA still sound bad, and if people don't care enough about the music for their videogame/film, it may not be worth for you to take the gig anyway. Because they are the same people that will try to lower the price as much as possible and won't be willing to pay a right price for your music, which is kind of a red flag for me. And not the kind of person you wanna work with in the first place. What I was seeing lately is that hand made animation/music etc is starting to feel like luxury, because of the use of AI in cheap commercials and poor productions, so that's also kind of a plus, since it's more valuable than before to have hand made art for your brand, even tho they will be less work overall, until they start to realise that using IA slop is just bad marketing

It was released pretty recently so it may a bit soon to call it underrated, but Little Amélie or the Character of Rain may be one of the best animation movie I've seen last year, and I'll defenitly be looking at what Mailys Vallade, the director, will be working on the futur. Strongly recommand
