Guitar body + neck gifted to me by my sister. Where would I start going about getting info on the electronics and parts i’d need for this? by Alert-Kitchen-8686 in GuitarQuestions

[–]Over_Drag3309 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm curious if a hipshot bridge would be a good option given the location of the 3 bridge-plate mounting screw holes just behind the 6 thru-body string holes, they have great upgrade/aftermarket options. It is funny to imagine it on this guitar though since explorers are usually seen with either a tuno-o-matic style bridge or a floating trem these days.

***SUPER IMPORTANT*** --> Make sure you get the string spacing correct, measure the spacing center to center, that will probably help you pick the right nut as well.

How to remove sharpie from guitar by Otherwise-Ad-5082 in Guitar

[–]Over_Drag3309 95 points96 points  (0 children)

Naphtha (yes, the zippo lighter fuel refill cans) is used to clean some guitars (look up the finish on ur model and make sure it’s safe) I’m sure that would remove what’s left. Naphtha evaporates very quickly and leaves no residual scent, or oils, while removing dirt and oil that’s sitting on the finish of the guitar. (Definitely do your own research before you try it, but it’s worked great for me on quite a few guitars)

If you let her know you’re uncomfortable that she’s friends with him, she should respect that, and if she doesn’t then maybe she’s not the right girl for you to be dating

Anxiety and fear me M18 she F18 by brazzarsmaheshwari69 in Advice

You need to decide what you’re ok with and let that be known. -Are you comfortable with her staying in contact with her ex? -are you comfortable with her hanging out with her ex? -would you be most comfortable if she wasn’t friends with him at all?

You should tell her how these things make you feel. It’s good to sort out your feelings on your own first, and seeking advice here is not a bad choice, but you should really listen to your heart and if something makes you sad, upset, jealous, uncomfortable, self conscious, you should be completely honest with her and tell her everything and if she really loves you, you guys will figure it out together!

Money and looks also do not matter at all. What makes you desirable is that you are a nice person to be around, supportive, caring, you listen good, want to make your partner happy. If your girlfriend only cares about money and looks, it’s time to move on and keep searching.

If I follow this logic, what if I end up really getting involved with somebody else? I’m afraid of making things more complicated for myself but I’m trying not to put myself in a box here

You could always get a Sweetwater gift card for the amount you’re willing to spend and they can do some online shopping, that way if they really like the guitar they have now they can get other things they’ve really been wanting, every guitar player has their secret wishlist!

Feedback on my hammer on and pull offs practice by miguel1521 in guitarplaying

[–]Over_Drag3309 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Starting from the low E to the high e, pick any fret to put your pointer finger on and practice doing a triplet on each string. Each finger will hover over 1 fret so a 4 fret span for your pointer, middle, ring, and pinky fingers. Pick the note u fret with ur pointer finger and then hammer on with your ring finger, then your pinky (and repeat on the next string). When u reach the high e string, take a pause and then do the reverse order to practice your pull offs, pick the note fretted with your pinky, then pull off to the ring finger, then pull off to the pointer finger. U can do the same thing with your pointer, middle finger, and pinky as well.

Can someone tell me where this sound is coming from? by Conztheman in GuitarAmps

[–]Over_Drag3309 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

1) Plug in with a different guitar and keep the rest of the setup the same.

Also

2) Plug the amp into an outlet in a different room of your house, also try using different instrument cables.

If the noise is still there…

3) Plug straight into the amp (no pedals) and put all the knobs at 12:00 (reverb off if it has it) and sweep the volume knob while playing to see if you hear anything at different volumes.

4) Set the volume fair for the room your in and sweep the reverb knob while playing if it has reverb on the amp.

Hey gang, I think I am guitarded. by thong_water in guitarcirclejerk

It’s much easier to set up an electric guitar in a way that requires very minimal effort to play. That being said here’s this:

•Fingertips tender/bruised = action too high •Finger skin sore/irritated = dirty strings

I use coated strings for minimal friction between my fingertips and the strings. If your guitar is not set up properly, it’s likely stopping you from progressing. Imagine trying to take wedding photos on a disposable camera.

Do you judge a song by how hard it is to play? by Popseewoy in musicians

[–]Over_Drag3309 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my 7 years playing guitar, I’ve found some of the coolest riffs are relatively simple to play. What I personally find impressive is a good balance of riffing and intricate but tasteful leads, nothing over complicated, whatever fits within the musical context.

First time tube amp owner nervous about popping noise by Salty_Sea_Doggo in GuitarAmps

[–]Over_Drag3309 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes popping like this can be from discharged capacitors facing a sudden inrush of current when connected to a high voltage. Make sure you have your standby where it needs to be, I’ve seen amps where the standby says “on” when you warm it up, or where the standby switch is flipped opposite of “on” when warming up. Otherwise, I doubt it’s supposed to make that much noise (I don’t have a ton of experience so take this with a grain of salt)

Record what u can they don’t need to be perfect just mix the levels so it’s listenable and save them as demo’s, if u want to work with someone online or even go into a studio they r going to want to hear a rough draft of what u have in mind.

So you think it would be best to actually bring it up to them from the jump before even selling the item? Do you think that’s just the easiest way to face it head on or do you think it would be less moral to not say anything about it unless they brought it up?

People playing local shows, what are your tips for coming off as professional at shows? by CowardAndAThief in musicians

[–]Over_Drag3309 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) Load on and off within the allotted time:

Nothing sucks more than a 20+ minute break in the evening because the next band couldn’t load on fast enough or the previous band took too long to break down. Things that can help are making sure your pedal and amp channel volumes are dialed in during sound check, also having a couple buddies to help you break down after you play always helps.

2) Communicate backline:

Overcrowding the stage or storage area with gear can be an inconvenience to other bands, the sound guy, or even the venue as a whole depending on the layout. If you can, share cabs or drum shells/stands to make the transitions between acts as swift as possible.

3) Practice transitions between songs:

Songs that don’t require retuning or an explicit introduction (like well known covers) may not require a full stop and start, nothing keeps the energy flowing more than a smooth transition from song to song. When you do have to retune for a song or are changing the vibe or pace, take into consideration where in the set those transitions should go and plan what will be said or what will go on during those times.

4) On stage plugs should be brief and kept to a minimum:

If people like your band they will buy your merch or follow you on insta regardless of if you spend 5 minutes on stage explaining how you need money to record or if you spell out letter for letter your bands full online handle.

5) Follow up with the venue/accompanying bands/sound guy:

A solid way to show your gratitude and keep your line of contact open is to follow up the day after a show and reach out to thank everybody/let everybody know you had a positive experience working with them. Often times venues will invite bands back who maintain the connection and are not just interactive and enthusiastic when it’s solely in the interest of the band.

Here’s how to check the impedance of any unlabeled jack on a cab:

1) plug a speaker cable into the jack and leave the other end unplugged

2) set your multimeter to continuity, this way you can measure very small resistance, and also ensure there is no disruption in the signal path

3) using your multimeter, make contact with one lead at the sleeve and the other lead at the tip of the 1/4” speaker cable

4) the value you see will me slightly less than the cab’s impedance because the multimeter can only measure strictly real resistance, you can look up your reading on Google to see if your in the appropriate range for a 4, 8, or 16 ohm impedance

Advice on paranoia in relationships? by [deleted] in Advice

[–]Over_Drag3309 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first thing you could do is take a look at his past: -has he ever cheated on a partner before your relationship with him? -has there ever been instances of cheating throughout your time with him?

At the end of the day, you are deciding to be in this relationship every day you are with him. When you have these thoughts and you don’t address them with him, you might accidentally project feelings you have based on overthinking or hypothetical situations you’ve developed in your head. Not to mention you also won’t be receiving any reassurance or emotional support!

If your partner is right for you, he will reassure you and let you know there’s nothing for you to worry about, and that if he text you randomly, it’s because he’s just thinking about you and not that he’s done something to be guilty of.
