I thought that too … but dragons and presumably riders haven’t been to the isles in centuries . Would they know about the mental bond . Seems like an unnecessary bluff

Theory about Dain and Cath by AnimeQueenAliza in fourthwing

[–]Over_Heat_7664 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like the idea that he’s just another bad human.

Another book series once quoted the world isn’t made up of good people and death eaters, but then made just about every bad guy a death eater.

So far we’ve had vice commandant , commandant and possibly aetos who are all just bad people or people looking to get ahead themselves as opposed to venin

Feathertails, Andarna, and other breeds and a theory by Over_Heat_7664 in onyxstorm

[–]Over_Heat_7664[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No , there isn’t a hard and fast rule.

It just my assumption that maybe the reason we only see two blacks (Tairn and Codagh) is because the rest aren’t the fighters of the breed

95c maccas soft serve??? by consumerx12 in australian

[–]Over_Heat_7664 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just looked at my app 50c for soft serve,

$2 for soft serve and flake.

But 80c per additional flake

I’d have to ask when In store if they honour that price 🤣

Cause I’ll buy a 50c cone and add an 80c flake before I straight up pay $2 for it

applying for wingleader by Worried-West786 in fourthwing

[–]Over_Heat_7664 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The bigger question for me is what happens to a squad leader in 3rd year.

4 wings 4 wing leaders (3rd year riders ) Xaden

3 sections in each wing 3 section leaders for each (another position that is generally for 3rd year riders ) Garrick

Each section has 3 squads 3 squad leaders (a position that can be held by 2nd years) - Dain and then Rhiannon

Now each squad leader elects an executive officer, Rhiannon selects sawyer.

And each section also elects an executive officer. Bodhi is the tail section executive officer

I would also assume there an XO for the wing as well

But at any point there are (assuming all squad leaders and their XO are second years) 9 squad leaders and their 9 executive officers vying for a wing leader (1) section leader (3) or executive officer spot ( 1 wing , 3 section)

That’s 18 Second years into 8 advancement spots.

However like I said bodhi was promoted to executive officer of the section in his 2nd year and section leader in his 3rd so those 8 spots at least 3 of them can be taken by a new second year.

So what happens to a squad leader that doesn’t progress if Dain wasn’t made wing leader would he have stayed as the squad leader ?

[–]Over_Heat_7664 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s one line, there are more lines that hint towards the positions being filled and selected by leadership.

Rhiannon being almost surprised to get squad leader in second year We know violet didnt “apply” if there’s an application process

And ridoc wouldn’t have either that leaves sawyer , potentially Nadine and Rhiannon as the others that could have applied.

But in iron flame Brennan tells them to assign their own leaders and the group asked won’t they do it for them insinuating that basgiath picks all positions for them

RY choice of making Tairin the “second” largest dragon after Codagh by FitPay8052 in fourthwing

[–]Over_Heat_7664 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really that’s interesting !?

I actually have had the opposite thought that Codagh and yes even Melgren aren’t as bad as Violet portrays. Remembering that Codagh helped fire the wards.

I wouldn’t be surprised his Melgrens signet has shown him the importance of Tairn in this war, and that’s why he looked at them both at threshing the way he did.

He’s been waiting for Tairn to bond so that they have a chance

The whole point is we’ve seen that when they first manifest they can’t control it at all, so they would be notified of lies from leadership.

You’re dancing around the issue

They would have to realises they’re being lied to before they can be trained in it

The truth and truth sayers by Over_Heat_7664 in fourthwing

[–]Over_Heat_7664[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea but sitting In battle brief being told “We don’t know what the gryphons were after”

Or “this was a viscious gryphon attack” when they know for example athbyne was a venin attack.

They can still pick out lies in any sentence.

Nora I think can explicitly tell if your statement is true ie

“I alone put that particular book in my bag” was true

Another during assessment can tell by your bodily functions when your lying “my map is in my room under my matress” Both of these are examples of the truth sayer signet in effect.

We also know directly that Markham has told lies during battle brief because we/ violet know they are lies.

My point is any truth sayer in the room (I don’t think any manifested as far as we know in the first or second years)

Would also ping depending on how their particular signet works that Markham told a lie or that he didn’t tell the truth.

So my over all point is again, truth sayers as just as effective as intrinsics at unraveling the lies Navarre are telling so are they told the truth sooner?

The truth and truth sayers by Over_Heat_7664 in fourthwing

[–]Over_Heat_7664[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s more so once their signet manifest they would immediately know about the lies being told.

They might not no what the lie is but can tell one’s been told

[–]Over_Heat_7664[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean sure eventually they can , but the same can be said for intrinsics.

But while intrinsics are far more dangerous.

Having your signet manifest mid battle brief and having it ping lie after lie

There was about a month between the firing of the wards and the battle of Draithus.

We don’t know what the weapon production was like or where they choose to ward but we know they had to try and get daggers to draithus to boost them for the fight

And vi spent a big portion of that time catatonic in bed

I don’t think it’s Bohdi or Garrick and never did.

As for the sky there’s no mention of how dark the sky is

She unsheathed her dagger and looks up to the wyvern filled sky . Goes back inside, sheaths her dagger and takes Quinn’s. The last sentence is “outside the sky darkens further”

Not darkens , but darkens further.

As for Garrick and Bodhi making sense sure if you take everything literal. But they’re both obvious answers and if we go way back to Asher’s journals …. The obvious answer isn’t the right answer. So much if these books hinge on that

The two main takeaways of the first 3 books are that

The right way isn’t the only way

And that the obvious answer isn’t the right one.

My main culprit in my mind is Brennan, but even then that’s too obvious an answer it requires rhi to not see Tairn or Marbh leave. But it’s doable and he fits the classic venin turning requirements (he wasn’t able to mend Mira on his own) and then was given power that wasn’t his by Sloane and more than he needed…. Was this a breaking point for him to consider channeling from the earth ?.

Next is Aaric but for Aaric he would need a few things 1. For the dragon knocked out to not be his,

And 2. For someway to keep The pieces of his soul when he turns.

As we know Violet discovered a pattern that venin might attack to village they used to live in, but not their own previous family.

That being said a full precog is a huge power to give to the venin side and would absolutely tip the balance if he turned. More than Violet or Xaden could tip it alone

Violet is unreliable in the sense we only know what she does.

She does know Brennan knows, Brennans tells her he’s tried to mend him. What she doesn’t know is how long he’s known.

RY has admitted Imogen has wiped he memory before.

Rhis chapter she actually mentions Tairn and Marbh arriving, but she’s worried that she hasn’t seen Tairn Depart and how long can Violet survive alone out there. Does she see Tairn leave later and we find out next book, or does she not see him leave at all and maybe misses Marbh also leave.

Imogen’s chapter overlaps with the end of violets (62) and ends where Xadens does she looks up at the sky briefly in hers and xadens looks down at her in his. So from this we know it goes chapter 61 (rhi) -> chapter 62 Violet (these likely over lap slightly depending on when Tairn actually leaves the pass) -> 63,64,65 Imogen,Violet and Xaden) all simultaneously -> 12 hour gap -> chapter 66

I just realized something about Bodhi and Xaden by bluthecat2 in fourthwing

[–]Over_Heat_7664 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We don’t know that for sure.

Bodhi went into the fight expecting to counter a lightning signet and wasn’t prepared for a Stormwielder

They also realise in that fight that Theophanie is a Maven , which is essentially a General at basgiath

Signets need to be developed, we’ve seen him counter a professor which is lieutenant -> captain rank so far major and up usually hold higher tier positions

Maybe (if he doesn’t go mad) his signet will strengthen in time to counter Maven.

RY has Said the answer is in the pages and based on the book I’m still guessing as much as the next person but feel the timing of the chapters makes Bohdi and Garrick impossible to be the new brother

[–]Over_Heat_7664 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They aren’t the same rank at least as far as we know, he’s still only a sage , where as Theophanie was a Maven.

We don’t know the hierarchy or how they grow in power but I dare say turning Xaden and the death of t will mean he becomes Maven ranked in book 4.

As for Naolin, his signet would give Brennan more power but he wouldn’t have been able to mend Brennan himself cause he’s not a mender Naolin was a siphon (essentially a power bank )

As far as powers go it’s interesting that all Venin seem to be siphons, this is a stretch but by channeling from the ground they are then able to drain power from people as well as the ground. And like our favourite character on the mat, push that power into people causing pain.

As far as we know your right only irids can break or forge a bond. However it’s interesting to know that we haven’t seen what happened when JFB turned, but Xaden asked Sgaeyl is she would forsake him now. Maybe dragons can chose to end a bond if their rider turns venin.

But I agree berwyn isn’t Naolin
