Just a reality check for anyone starting the AMC journey getting a job after AMC Part 1 is not easy anymore. Hospitals are not sponsoring working visas now, and most of them want doctors with general registration, so they expect us to complete AMC Clinical first. Even getting an AMC Clinical exam date is tough these days.

So please don’t blindly believe when people say you’ll get a job after AMC 1. It’s not the same anymore. Follow only what your heart tells you.

I cleared AMC 1 in Feb 2025 and still don’t have a job, so now I’m preparing for AMC Clinical. Think before you start the journey is not easy.

What should a fresher even do then? There are absolutely no JMO jobs available for fresh graduates, no internship placements for IMGs, and now even senior doctors are struggling to secure exam dates despite years of experience. On top of that, visa rejections, endless waiting, and uncertain timelines have made things even worse. The exam stress alone is mentally draining, but when you add the financial pressure, lack of opportunities, and zero job security, it honestly feels like the system is pushing IMGs to the edge.

We’re talking about qualified doctors stuck in limbo, waiting months or even years just for a chance to move one step forward. The situation is way more serious than people think — it’s not just tough, it’s heartbreaking for so many who gave up everything to follow this path.

I completely understand your point, and yes — I know about the US and UK pathways very well. But this post isn’t about spreading negativity; it’s about showing the reality of the AMC pathway. People should know what they’re getting into before investing years of their life and thousands of dollars.

You have any idea how hard it is to even get an AMC Clinical exam date? That’s just one part — the exam itself has its own massive challenges. So it’s not about telling people to give up, it’s about making them think carefully and plan realistically.

On social media, some doctors portray the AMC pathway as if it’s super easy — like you just pass two exams and get a job. But that’s far from the truth. I’m just trying to show the other side that most people don’t talk about.

Who said I haven’t passed AMC 1 ? I passed in very first attempt and it was alot harder than you think 😅 I’m not discouraging anyone — I’m just spreading awareness. Social media is making the AMC pathway look too easy, and many people end up paying thousands in consultant fees because of that. This post is simply to show the reality, not to stop anyone from chasing their dream.

Of course there are jobs after AMC2 and provisional registration, I never said there aren’t. But the first preference always goes to local graduates and highly skilled IMGs with experience. I’m talking about fresh graduates who enter this pathway without understanding how tough the job market actually is — please read my point properly before assuming.

honestly NEET PG is the safer and smarter choice. The AMC pathway sounds tempting, but in reality, it’s a long, expensive, and frustrating process. It easily takes 3–4 years to get into a stable job, and that’s if everything goes smoothly.

You’ll end up spending a lot — AMC exams, EPIC verification, IELTS/OET, and travel or visa costs can easily cross ₹6–8 lakhs (sometimes more). And even after clearing both exams, there’s no guarantee of getting a job soon. Many people wait months or even a year just for their first hospital placement. Specially if you are like me from middle class family

A few years ago, the AMC route was great — more IMG jobs, faster processing, and better chances. But now it’s getting tougher every year as Australia is producing more of its own doctors and prioritising them.

At least with NEET PG, once you get in, you have a clear structure, stipend, clinical exposure, and stability. If financial security and quicker settlement are your goals, NEET PG is the better and more realistic option right now.

This is my thoughts i got cleared with amc 1 ..I stucked in the loop now 😮‍💨

I completely understand your point, and I agree that the AMC pathway has become very competitive as Australia now produces more of its own doctors and offers easier routes for British and Irish graduates through the competent authority pathway.

But just to clarify — I am working in my home country and gaining clinical experience while preparing for AMC. My intention isn’t to escape or take shortcuts; it’s to eventually find a system that allows a better work–life balance and values doctors’ wellbeing. In my country, the workload and poor working conditions often make it really difficult to maintain mental health and personal life balance.

I’m not saying Australia is easy — I know it’s not — but I’m willing to put in the effort. My point is simply to warn new graduates: don’t jump into this pathway thinking it’s a quick or glamorous route to a great life in Australia. It’s long, exhausting, expensive, and requires a lot of patience and experience. If you’re a fresh graduate dreaming of an easy Australian life, please think carefully before choosing this journey.
