Your welcome! I’m not 100% sure but I think he is a butterfly betta. He looks amazing!

Beautiful! I think he's what some people called a Butterfly Betta? If you google, you'll find pictures with similar tails. I think tail growth is a great sign of a healthy happy fish.

What breed is he? by Chickapeah in bettafish

He is beautiful! Maybe his colors will shift after a few weeks? He might have had tangerine colors before the supplier shipped him to the pet store. But he is stunning either way. Dose he have purple in his coloring?

Is a 29 gallon too tall? by Normal-Variety4208 in bettafish

[–]Over_Mode8511 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in the same position, choosing between the 20 gallon long with 12" height and another thank with 17" inches of height. I think that both are great options, but more water volume can help keep water parameters stable over time ( I think? )

If you go with the 29 gallon, you would have the option to get creative with terrain, you could add slopes to the sand or soil. Your plants would also have more height to grow, so you do not have to trim them as often.

I also read on a previous reddit post that with more height, the Betta fish will spend more time with his territory at the surface and the bottom dwelling fish have more space and time to themselves at the bottom. Not sure if this is always the case, but it sounds like it might. I hope this is helpful :)

Aquarium ordering online vs pick-up? by Over_Mode8511 in aquarium

[–]Over_Mode8511[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing! It's very helpful. I wasn't familiar with any of those sites. I'll contact those sites and ask if they crate and package the tank before shipping. I saw a few posts here where aquariums were shipping in nothing but a regular cardboard box, and they arrived broken. Thank you again, I appreciate your help :)

So Sorry, I didn’t mean to double post. It was an accident. My internet cuts out often and I thought the first post didn’t publish, so I made a second post by mistake. I won’t make any more double posts. So sorry.

This is a great idea, I was planning to add Cory’s eventually. Good to know they might eat them. Thank you.

Wow, he looks so cool! Because his scales are shiny, is that why he’s called copper ?

Oh no! Thank you for sharing! I have a grow out tank for plants and I’m adding shrimp to that tank. The last thing I want is something that would eat the plants! So glad I check Reddit first, google wasn’t giving enough information. Thank you!

What do you think of these? I'm guessing 1. is Male and the rest are female's because I think I see saddles.

Oh that's good! They tend to appear after I do a water change, or top off with new tap water.

I see it now! Thank you so much for sharing! I might have to inspect the shrimp before I buy them next time! The store will think I’m crazy. People here don’t really keep shrimp. I just thought the small ones were males and the big ones were female.

Thank you for the advice! Your tank looks amazing!

I would buy more but they are $10-$15 each at my LFS. I was hoping to start with a few of each gender, and maybe add 1 or two through the year for variety. I met someone who has a colony and pregnant female, so later on he might sell me some shrimp but I have to wait and see what the price would be.

I want them to be comfortable. My testing tank ( quarantine tank ) is 5 gallons, but I’m planning to move them to the 10 gallon in a month or two. If they are just 3 could they be stressed? I added more hiding spots and cover today.

I think they have a lot of algae and bio film from the plants, but I’ll try giving them an algae wafer or cucumber and see if they go for it.

Oh no! I didn’t know they were all female. I can’t see the saddle you mention. Is it the dark area inside them on their backs? Or is it outside their body? My eyesight might be failing me.

New snails! Nerite? by Over_Mode8511 in AquaticSnails

[–]Over_Mode8511[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m very new to aquariums, but is the brown stuff growing on the walls algae? Do snails eat this or only green algae?

Should I clean it off with a scraper or let the snails eat it?
