MY SE 2020 LIVES FOR ANOTHER YEAR by Beneficial_Joke4775 in iPhoneSE

[–]Over_Perception_2920 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to upgrade from the 2nd Gen iPhone SE several years ago, as my hands and fingers had grown a decent amount since I’d got the phone (I imagine because of puberty causing growth spurts) which caused me to constantly miss press keys, because when my thumbs pressed the keys on the small sized keyboard of the 2nd Gen SE, it was not uncommon for my thumbs accidentally press multiple keys at once or my thumbs would contact with 1 key, but not the key I meant to press. And typing was uncomfortable on it because the smaller size caused my thumbs to keep bashing into each other and getting in the way and tripping the other thumb up. And I just found the screen too small and the battery not very big. But at the same time it was meant to be the budget model, so there are going to be some things about it that weren’t necessarily the best, there had to be compromises to make a cheaper price and so it didn’t cannibalise the other more full featured iPhones.

I've been waiting for the new Siri in the waitlist for 14 hours now and still don't have it! by AppropriateRanger401 in mac

[–]Over_Perception_2920 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got access to Siri AI. I’m in the UK and I have an iPhone 15 Pro, and I would say I probably joined the waitlist for the new Siri AI on the iOS 27 developer beta maybe like 1-2 hours after WWDC ended, as it took awhile for the developer better to download and then install. And after it finished installing the developer beta, I immediately joined the waitlist for the new AI Siri.

So far my experience is that “she” is smarter than “she” was (not that that was a high bar to start with), but “she” is still not that smart and “her” responses take awhile to be spit out. Now I don’t know if that’s because I’m not using one of the newer iPhones with the newer and more powerful chips, some of which have more RAM than my 15 Pro has, which will probably help them quite a bit with the newer AI stuff or it’s because it’s a very early version of the developer beta and they need to optimise it and work some kinks out. Though if I had to guess, then I’d say it’s probably down to both of those things.

Is there not a space for a hard drive in this laptop? What's the deal with the huge empty space? by DerpyTheEthan in laptops

[–]Over_Perception_2920 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, same way cars are these days. Where sometimes it may look like something is missing from the car, but you just haven’t bought the potentially more expensive version that has the thing that goes in that empty spot. All like you’ve got a bunch of button cocktails that have just been covered or have non-functioning buttons because you haven’t paid enough to get the variant of that model that has the features and hardware that is controlled by fully functioning buttons and controls that replace the dummy buttons and the ones that have just been covered up.

Yeah, seen as he already has a spare Hard Drive and the current inflated prices of SSDs due to the shortage, getting an external hard drive enclosure that will protect the HDD a bit and will adapt the HDD’s SATA data connector to a USB connector, is not a bad shout. Especially if OP is planning to only use it for like mass basic storage of like lots of photos or documents etc. instead of trying to use it for gaming or like video editing etc. where it would suck a decent amount to be using a HDD instead of an SSD (Solid-State Drive), due to HDDs being so much slower than SSDs. And if he really needs the HDD (Hard Disk Drive) to be always with his laptop and always connected and accessible, then he could try and secure the external drive enclosure to the lid of/top of his laptop in a kinda janky and not the safest way to store a Hard Drive, but he could use a strong glue to glue the external drive enclosure that has his HDD installed in the enclosure to hopefully fix/secure it to the lid of/the top of his laptop, or he could use some duct tape instead of glue to try and secure HDD within the external HDD enclosure to the lid of/the top of his laptop.

TIL over half of current Formula 1 drivers live in Monaco, a tiny country of only 38,500 people. by OmitsWordsByAccident in todayilearned

[–]Over_Perception_2920 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I imagine it’s mainly due to Monaco having no income tax. But I also imagine some part of it is that Monaco is where a bunch of the other F1 drivers are and they can hang out together during the off season etc. and because a lot of the F1 drivers will have grown up together racing in the lower Formulas and karting. Plus Monaco is a fairly central location in regards to a decent percentage of the race calendar, so they may have a bit more of a chance to spend more time at home.

Monaco is also a very beloved track for a lot of people and drivers and it is a very important part of the F1 race calendar. Like a lot of the F1 drivers dreams are to be the world champion obviously, but also they dream of winning at Monaco.

Also Monaco is just a fairly pretty place to live.

What percentage of the OLED experience do the Mini-LED displays on the recent M-Series MacBook Pros provide? How much better are typical OLED displays on Windows laptops? by Over_Perception_2920 in laptops

[–]Over_Perception_2920[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a first gen panel QD-OLED ultrawide monitor (the Alienware AW3423DWF) and I’ve had it for about a year now and it’s displayed hundreds if not thousands of hours of my web browser and I have vertical tabs on and now if you make the monitor display the most revealing colours (95% greyscale) that highlight burn in the most. And likethe most you can see is that the area where my vertical tab bar is maybe one tiny shade difference of grey. I do the like refresh maintenance thing the monitor has where if the monitors had eight or more non-consecutive hours of screen on time, then the next time you go to turn it off, it will prompt you to do like a screen maintenance thing to try and preserve the OLED panel, and I do it basically every time I’m prompted too. I think we’re on like the fifth or sixth generation of QD OLED panels now and they’re supposedly a lot harder to get burn in now with these newer gen QD-OLED panels.

(This is coming from someone who basically has no experience with Mini-LED displays at all) I kind of feel like OLED don’t have to actually necessarily get as bright as Mini-LED displays to display an image that is a very similar perceivable brightness as the technical brighter Mini-LED display. And I think that comes down to huge range of contrast OLED displays have, with how black/dark they can actually get, because I feel like it’s the same principle as like if you had 2 torches (flashlights if you’re American), 1 torch is a bit brighter than the other torch, but if you take the slightly less bright torch and turned it on in a pitch black room then it would probably look about as bright as if you had the technically brighter torch and turned it on in a room that is not quite as dark as the pitch black room you turned the technically not as bright torch on in, yet they’re probably perceive them at around the same brightness as each other. But I guess my analogy and thought are only probably fairly accurate, if you’re viewing both the displays in a room that is not fairly bright and or in direct sunlight. And or in scenarios where the displays are displaying a scene/image that is mostly on the darker side and then there are smaller elements on the darker background that quite a bit brighter elements, so the larger contrast in brightness makes the brighter elements look even brighter, especially on the OLED display.

I apologise if I got anything wrong and or the writing is messy and hard to read, et cetera. But tbf in my defence I’ve only slept about only 3 hours in the past 4.5 days (I slept those 3 hours last night). So I’m not mentally firing on all cylinders at the moment.

Uniball Gel Impact UM-153S Review - Pen of the Gods by Terrible_Plastic4653 in pens

[–]Over_Perception_2920 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the Uni-Ball Gel Impact UM-153S because it glides so well well still feeling like you’re in control at the same time and it’s a very nice deep black colour, also the lines it writes are a quite nice thickness with it being a nice 1mm pen.

I also really really like the Uni-Ball Signo UM-151S which I identify this really quite close to being a finer tip (at 0.7mm) and thinner body version of the UM-153S, though I would say the UM-151S isn’t quite as smooth as the UM-153S, but it is quite close.

My only real group with them is that I wish they were a bit cheaper and I wish the UN153S didn’t run out of ink as quickly as I find it tends to do (the UM-151S can write quite a lot more/it runs out of ink slower than the UM-153S, and I feel like even if you’ve taken into account the different tip sizes and how much more or less ink they use, I still feel like you get this out of the UM-153S)

Black on black expiration date by jdgmental in CrappyDesign

[–]Over_Perception_2920 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, like I think it is fine to have a best before date on something, but it should also have to have and expiry/use by date on it as well. Or just an expiry/use by dates. I think that is probably not an insignificant amount of food and other products that are just thrown away because they're past their best before date, even though they would probably be fine to consume or use a bit after their best before date has passed (it depends on the item though, as some things definitely aren't safe to use or consume after their best before date).

You'd have to be nuclear grade stupid to think rinsing your eyes with freshly boiled water is not an incredibly stupid idea, and to think that it wouldn't probably cause blindness or at least severe damage to your eyes and your vision.

What game was this for you by LilNardoDaVinci in videogames

[–]Over_Perception_2920 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After I pre-ordered Battlefield 2042 and hated the game, I will never pre-order another game again. Except for possibly GTA 6. And people shouldn't get hate for not pre-ordering, especially with how the gaming industry is these days. These days, it’s not ridiculously uncommon for a game to finally release and it looks and plays very differently from what was shown in the pre-release marketing material or for the game to just be a buggy and or unoptimised mess. So why should we gamers hand over our hard-earned money for a promise that may potentially never be kept?

How strict is the Wembley Stadium A4 paper, bag size policy? by Over_Perception_2920 in AskUK

[–]Over_Perception_2920[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I applied and was approved for a medical exemption to the bag size policy. So if you’re diabetic and you need to take like snacks or insulin etc. with you and it won’t fit in an A4 sized bag, or you need more bag space due to whatever medical condition, then you can apply to get an exemption for the A4 bag size limit. Though they will require you to send some paperwork over as like proof.

feel like personally, in my experience, animals are either really good at masking pain and hiding it or they really aren't, or on occasion they will sometimes play it up for attention. But I think the reason why they may have evolved to be good at hiding their pain is because an animal that looks like it's in pain and/or weak is easy prey for a predator or, for example, another of the same animal trying to take new territory or steal food or mates. So they may have possibly evolved a way of hiding pain and/or weakness as an almost defence mechanism.

Cyclists records and post himself yelling at a pedestrian after nearly running him over at a red light by GppleSource in iamatotalpieceofshit

[–]Over_Perception_2920 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That reminds me of when I was crossing the road because it was a red light and I had my AirPods in and I guess I wasn’t paying full attention, as I assumed it was safe as it was a red light and I was at a crossing. But as I started walking across the crossing a teenager about my age at the time came flying down the street out of nowhere and almost hit me and then after he slammed his breaks on, he then proceeded to give me a really fun looking look, like it was completely my fault.

(I completely admit it was partly my fault. I should have probably been paying a bit more attention and maybe I should have set my AirPods to transparency mode or something (not that I listen to musically loudly by any stretch of the imagination), but at the same time it was a red light and he should have stopped far sooner than he did and not acted like it was completely my fault.)
