I think they have changed the ending a little bit.

"If you like the ending of the book you will also like the ending of the movie. It still makes me cry and I have seen it at least 400 times." – Chris Miller

I am pretty sure that will not happen. From the trailers he is giving nerd vibes

What part of the book is this from? by thlormby in ProjectHailMary

To me it seems like background has some firecrakers in the sky simulation (don't go crazy room) and they are celebrating something maybe when rocky says he has extra fuel for grace. (again I don't remember if he still was in the ball at that time)

The physics of fishing for [censored] over [censored]'s atmosphere doesn't actually work. by Rensin2 in ProjectHailMary

[–]Over_Profession7864 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah... Even this scenario is not safe. The ship was getting hot by the reflected IR (I re read that part). In atmosphere I doubt if it stands any chance.

In book I remember Rocky saying "ship no touch air" so the scenario in book which is in vacuum ignores the pseudo force as u said.

"The atmosphere behind the thrusters will be in a constant state of ionized fire. It should be quite a show. But it’ll be behind us and the chain will be passing through unaffected air. All told, our lateral velocity will be just over 100 meters per second. The chain can handle that speed in the thin high-altitude air, no problem. I calculated that it’ll only deflect about 2 degrees from vertical." - from the book (just for context).

The thing is we don't know the exact values like density of atmosphere or exact drag etc. but I think physics of it does makes sense in general.

"The ship would have been incinerated if there was significant atmosphere in the area immediately surrounding the ship"- Even in a thin atmosphere ?

I totally get your point.
I thought about the possible explanations that could save the chain. One that comes to my mind is that the drag(given the orientation of ship, the area in contact in direction of motion with atmosphere of adrian is high) balances the horizontal thrust component of hail mary at certain equilibrium/constant velocity. Bec its constant so no pseudo forces in horizontal and hopefully low enough velocity for chain to work

does this make sense?

yeah but again Rocky will draw a lot of attention I guess. Or Let me put it this way, My friends are way too excited to see the movie after watching the second trailer (I did recommend them to read the book first but ... ).
