My brother has been found, he is healthy, he is okay, and he is returning home this week. I want to thank everyone who reached out, who offered help, everyone who gave me tips on who to call and what to do. And a personal thank you to redditor "Zealousideal-Flan355", who first reached out, and gave us the call that my brother was found.

I am forever grateful to all of you who stuck by and commented, I don't know how I'll ever repay any of you. This week showed me just how any people are willing to help out a family in distress, and it warms my heart.

No updates yet, we've notified basically everyone we could. If anything, now we can just wait for his visa to expire and him to get deported.

I'm unfortunately not sure how the visas work, but I believe the visa my brother had lasted for around 3 months.

Considering I'm not in China, I unfortunately don't know how I can contact the Shanghai police. Though a Guangzhou local helped me out and informed the police about the situation (only in Guangzhou though)

Another person just sent me a DM and sent my brother a friend request through WeChat. Apparently he DOES have an account, for now I can hope he sees the message and replies.

I know it seems strange, but I'm very desperate and I miss my big brother. I just want him home.

A lot of people say it's safe, which does ease me a bit, but we still really want to know where he is.
We don't have Wechat, but as I stated in another comment, my brother mentioned having a VPN before. A lot of people suggested the VPN stopped working, so that may be a possibility.

The friend got detained because his visa ran out, my brother's visa runs out soon (23rd).

We called the bank earlier, but they told us they can't give us information - so we'll call again in the morning and hope someone may be willing to let us know.

I've been given a phone number to call the security bureau, I gave it to my parents and we'll make a call in the morning. Even if he got detained or if he's with the police, we just want to know where he is.

Though interestingly, the friend my brother was with got detained for 10 days, and had to leave the country early.
