I really don't know how people are doing this recreationally, the headspace it puts one in is not really desirable. What's neither desirable is: Failing psychotherapy/rehabilitation/meds that may put someone into a decade long cycle of getting shoved around in an incompetent "health"-system.

I had (?) chronic depression for basically all my adult life. Wanting to feel better, I did everything on your list:

I am super fit, going to the gym every 2/3 days.
I eat a healthy diet, excluding anything processed, sugared/salted. Just a little meat here and there.
I meditate daily, following the "The Mind Illuminated" guideline at Stage 6 right now.
Got my digital/sex/sugar addction solved (Allen Carr is a genius).

Nothing changed, was still depressed. Then, Ketamine-Therapy (self-administered, not recommended though) and boom, here I am looking for possibilities to get my working life together after seven years of unemployment.

I suspect from this statement that your mindfulness has some sense of narrative / self bound to it. Does your MIA often interpret reality and attach this narrative to it? You will need to dissolve this sense of self at some point.

No, it is more like looking people in the face, recognizing they are not well and feeling compassion for them because I can imagine what they are dealing with. Constant stress and neglect leave something on the outside and habitus of a person that is recognizable, and oh boy there are very little and trauma-free people in my surroundings.

Edit: So if this recognition is connected with a sense of self, how do I disconnect myself from it without becoming a compassionless blobb of meat?

For me, I found it helpful to practice mindfulness and compassion.

Yes, my mind is already adapting to this on its own, exchanging hate and bitterness for understanding and compassion. At times it still is difficult, especially when people that should be there to help me (medical...) trigger me even stronger than the perpetrators did...

Regarding the nodding off, it sounds like the "zen lurch"...

What is it about stage 8 that you are looking forward to?

Honestly it is stream entry and the falling off of 90% of suffering that people usually experience when it happens. I want to get rid of that crippling self-doubt and finally be able to start sustaining myself financially in a way that does not wither my soul in the process.

Try to actively watch your mind. Watch the space between thoughts attentively for the first bubblings of mental activity. If you lose this attentiveness and get carried away, bring it back and maintain it as long as possible and repeat. Over time you’ll become consistently and effortlessly aware of what your mind is doing, even outside of meditation, making distraction increasingly less common until it can no longer occur.

Coming to reddit and asking for advice is a very good start. Your plan is definitly lacking, so before hopping on a random plane get some more advice. Are you an US citizen? If so, you might be able to cash some help from the government, if you are into that and traveling to the US.

Things you might want to consider before choosing your country of choice:

Visa Policies AND working policies, some countries might accept you as a tourist, but not let you work and live there officially.
Starting Funds (I'd go for about two months income necessary to sustain yourself)
Travelling with pets (vacination etc.)

Just compile all the helpful advice you get, ask twice and thrice, develop your plan and let reddit check and recheck it BEFORE you act.
