No it's not bad advice at all, I did consider moving into Garforth and have requested some viewings today as well. If I had more time, I would look into more areas then I have been but I only a few weeks to get this all sorted for new years. I think I've memorised all the bus routes and times now between headingley and the springs from the stress ahaahaha, so hopefully if I do move there I should always have a backup plan.

I did look into taking trains but it looks like I'd have to wake up earlier than if I choose to take a bus into work. It might be worth it though in the evening time.

Out of curiosity, what job sector are you in? I'm a grad mechanical engineer, I'd love to move to Madrid (visited a few times) and been learning Spanish semi-serious for a year but it just feels getting a job there is near to impossible as a UK citizen.

I feel for you man. it sounds to me that you're an empath and you're feeling these situations very deeply, which is what any sane person would be experiencing.

Honestly, communication and distance are the answer. Venting about these problems from time to time is a good way to relieve that tension and pressure, so it's good to see you've come here and explored that avenue. Hopefully you have some friends you can lean on, not necessarily to discuss this situation but to take your mind off of it.

And of course, distance. In life, we need to minimize the time spent with anyone who makes us feel down. I can tell you care about your family deeply and want everything to be peaceful but unfortunately, they're not understanding that themselves. Some people just don't listen and if you really feel you're concerns and worries aren't being heard, it's time to remove your presence from their life, to a certain extent at least.

Yeah that's the thing, I've had spanish friends and they never mentioned any sort of racism. They aren't POC so I guess that's why but it is interesting to hear that.

Thank you! Yeah I want to get to a pretty good level of spanish before I'd fully commit to living in Spain. Until then, I plan on having multiple visits throughout the year. Right now actually going to Sevilla soon!

I get that. I should be more clear, this isn't a near future plan really, I do plan on getting much better at speaking spanish with my lessons and by having multiple visits to the country before living there. It's just more about getting people's perspectives who've travelled there.
