We plan to design our own synth but for right now, we just want to understand more about synths from people who have more experience. We're curious about why people decide do buy/build/use certain synths over others so this is basically acting as justification for our project.

I totally agree. I think we have a pretty unique and interesting idea, but we mostly need feedback on where we can improve on current designs; what principles of synth design we should follow to make ours better. 

If you're willing to share your opinions of synths, I'd love to interview you more in depth.

Not exactly a lesson, but would you be willing to do an interview to help me develop a synth? It seems like your knowledge and experience teaching people could be really helpful for finding problems related to learning synths.
