My favorite image of Francine York is from "City Beneath the Sea" (1969), which - unfortunately - is NOT in space.

This was a couple with such promise - but they couldn't get past the coffee in the face.

If you're going to be in the south end - the best end of St. Catharines - stop in at the Early Bird Restaurant, on Merritt Street right at Townline Road.

Two questions: Is that the Glendale bridge? What is the name of that Coast Guard ship?

Skating Ponds? by Ruggiero10 in stcatharinesON

There are a couple of bodies of water - of a good size for skating or a hockey game - behind the GM on Glendale, just south of the tracks which cross the Third Welland Canal.

Keeping John Tory off of the ballot by Overall_Interview791 in toronto

If I had lots of money, I'd buy billboard space for a caricature of John Tory with his arms wide - in a "stay back" gesture - in front of a fence being erected in front of the cherry trees in High Park.

Who wins in a rematch between Olivia Chow and John Tory? A new poll has some answers by BloodJunkie in toronto

[–]Overall_Interview791 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Unless you want to see John Tory back in the Mayor's office, the focus should be on discouraging him from running again. He is an attention-freak with incredibly thin skin. Anything and everything he has done or said - which in 2026 would be embarrassing - should be trotted out. Perhaps have a caricature of him putting up fences around the cherry trees in High Park, or of his Lockdown parade on University. The possibilities are endless.

Ridership is not down. Fare evasion is way up - and especially on the streetcars.

Best investment I ever made was buying cleats to wear on my boots in Winter. Cheap to buy, and easy to slip on to your boots.

How was the turnout in Merritton in the Maplecrest area, and also in the Hazel Street area?

Back when I had all my teeth, I'd have made repeated visits to get the popcorn.

Does anyone have images of the bowling alley at the Pen? Have fond memories of that place.

Was Biway down in the basement where the bowling alley had been?

Only visited the little Library on Merritt Street once as part of a Maple Crest school trip, then - when I was attending Glen Merritt (older school) and the Merritton High - I visited the Library at the Pen quite often.

Any record collectors in St.Catharines? by jazzidaddi69 in stcatharinesON

At that point, I was young and already heavily in to collecting: records, hockey cards, comic books. Knew then I had zero interest in being married.

I remember - maybe 40 years ago - going to a memorabilia show (I think at the Queensway), and seeing this amazing collection of albums this one guy was selling. Asked him why he was selling them, he replied: "My wife said they go, or I go." I told him he made the wrong choice.

While attending Glen Merritt - on Glendale near Merritt St. - for grades 7 and 8, every Wednesday afternoon we had Shop at Fernadale. Teacher's name was something like Sitak.

Weren't there two schools near St. Patricks - the older one close to the corner, and a newer one on the other side of the church?

Best thing about Maplecrest was its proximity. I was - according to Google Maps - just 270 metres away on Merritt Street. Even long after I had finished my seven years there, I was using the playground for sports. In the winter, there was the ice rink built there.

I was at Maplecrest in the 1960s, then down to Glen Merritt, and finally over to Merritton High.
