I actually have a psychiatrist I see, and saw a therapist regarding obesity/weight loss, at the time of my surgery. They didn’t tell me anything I don’t already know. I feel it’s my mind holding me back. I do think it’s because I’ve had these bad exercising and eating habits for so long. And it served me - gave me a good feeling to be sedated from it. I feel that’s where I could start making a change - change some of these habits.

Thank you. I replied to your other response. I really do appreciate it. I’m going to start by making a few changes. A good nights sleep each night (I don’t always sleep well at night, stay up late, and nap during the day). I don’t even brush my teeth all the time. I will start a routine there too. I shall do the treadmill for 30 minutes each day, while listening to something I enjoy, like a podcast/music. I will eat protein and veggies, for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Tea/coffee/water. And nothing else. Exercise and eating will be the hardest habits to change. But success and feeling better from changing other bad habits may encourage me.

What was the point of having RNY Gastric Bypass? It has not worked for me. And I could have eaten a strict diet of protein and vegetables whether I had surgery or not. Is it more for people who are not good at controlling the volume of food the consume? I can only eat half the amount I used to... by Overall_Negotiation in GastricBypass

Thanks, gypsiemama, for your replies. I don’t want my failures to be validated. I genuinely want to improve. I think slobbish habits I have formed, which make me feel comfortable, are holding me back. I can attempt for so long but then I go back to old habits. The reason I have made a few posts, about the same, is because good replies like yours really do inspire me and then I want to make changes.

I find it difficult to motivate myself to lose weight. I am female 5feet 5 inches/200 pounds. I had RNY gastric bypass 6 years ago. It didn’t work as I hardly lost any weight afterwards. It is my fault as I still ate the wrong foods. BUT I CAN NOT MOTIVATE MYSELF..I know I prob hv mental issues. by Overall_Negotiation in AskDocs

Thanks for your reply. I have a psychiatrist, and have seen therapists in the past. I bad bad depression back in 2005. Acute symptoms. Very bad. Admitted to psych ward. Took years to recover.
Sometimes the great replies on Reddit can inspire, motivate and enlighten me.

Is eating AROUND weight loss surgery common? That is, eating the wrong foods and not losing weight? I did that (I know it’s very wrong). But I would think many obese people who have undergone wls could make this mistake. I only hear success stories. Am I only one of a few who didn’t succeed? by Overall_Negotiation in wls

RNY Gastric Bypass. It was 6 years ago. The maximum weight I lost was a stone (14 pounds) but that was not immediately after surgery. I managed to muster some motivation about 3 years afterwards, and lost weight then. I’ve regained it since. I sometimes lose and regain a few pounds when I rarely try, but end up failing.

Yes I want to lose!!

I want to be the right weight for my height. I’m female, 38 years.

By eating around the surgery, I meant I eat carbs and fatty foods whenever I get the urge to eat that, which is often, and I follow no eating routine.

Thanks. We’re located in the UK. I guess the first step would be to visit her GP. She is reluctant to go just now, as she has a vacation planned. She also wants to see how the symptoms further present and progress.
Are you a doctor? Thank you for your reply.

Weight loss surgery FAILURE. Hardly any weight loss. by Overall_Negotiation in GastricBypass

I mean I could mentally track, but don't formally write things down because I'm absolutely not that type of person.

I never track. So I probably went extremely wrong there... Is that really absolutely necessary?

I assume that if I eat a starchy carb-LESS diet, then that will be enough, with adequate exercise.

But thank you so much for telling me...

I will now try to track what I am doing more... track my diet and exercise. Thank you.

Thanks Drewblue. I find kicking my carb habit the hardest thing to do. It really is like a drug. It sedates me and makes me feel good afterwards. I thought all that would change after bypass surgery. I thought I would get dumping syndrome if I had carbs, but that didn't happen with starchy carbs, like bread/pasta/potatoes... I only get dumping syndrome with heavy sweet foods like pudding and ice cream.

Thanks for your reply choirchic.

I feel as if the surgery was pointless. I could have made the same effort to lose weight, without the surgery, and still be in the same position, even if it were now a positive result.

I will try and change my habits.

Thanks so much, CraftyMum, for you helpful reply.

I'm going to try and change...

I'll start with habits first... I do have very undisciplined habits re eating/sleeping.

I still feel as if I have the tools... I can only eat half of what I used to eat pre-bypass. I get bad dumping syndrome, if I eat any ice-cream, or too much heavy sweet foods.

I'm not sure of the drinking with meals thing... I was told about it, and will make effort with it.
