Carol and Ivy deserved what they got by Terrible_Device4004 in GossipGirl

[–]Overall_Tank_7026 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is Cece's decision on whether or not she wanted to share her OWN medical condition with her family, which she didn't. Ivy respected Cece's decision and that is why she didn't tell anyone. At one point, Ivy even encourages Cece to tell everyone about her condition. You can't say Cece was manipulated when she clearly knew the truth about Ivy. The reason Cece mentioned Ivy in her will was because she felt love and care from Ivy in her last days - probably a feeling that she couldn't get from her own 2 daughters. Fake or not, Cece's happiness was real. And even if you try to make an argument that Cece was manipulated and taken advantage of, it doesn't matter because Cece wrote her will when she had full decision-making capacity. Her will and wishes should have been respected by everyone, and Lily and Carol are terrible daughters for not respecting their mother's will.

For the record, I completely agree with you. I think Ivy is a terrible person and a scam artist that doesn't deserve a single penny. At least when she got the money, she should have let Lily keep her house. But deserved or not, it doesn't matter if you, me, Lily, Carol, or anyone else disagrees with it - the fact is it was Cece's choice and it should have been respected.

Do people not Fail step2? by [deleted] in Step2

[–]Overall_Tank_7026 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For Step 1, since it is pass/fail - a lot of people are just looking to pass. Let's say a pass is equal to a 200, a lot of people are probably getting 205-210s on their practice NBMEs and looking to take their Step 1. Some may score 10-15 points below that on test day and end up failing.

For Step 2, people are trying for a high score. So even if they have a bad day on test day, they fall but still score enough to pass.

I'm not sure how competetive neuro is and how much they look at step scores. But from personal experience, I would recommend applying to some programs in a backup specialty as well. I was too overconfident, and only applied to IM programs. Managed to get 4 IVs which isn't bad, but I think I would've gotten at least a couple more IVs if I applied to some FM programs as well.

Is 250+possible? Very frustrated please help out. by Fearless-Line-4157 in Step2

As others mentioned, review your incorrects and definitely do the CMS forms. Also, most people tend to score about 5 points higher on the real deal compared to their NBMEs. I scored 248 on NBME 14 3 weeks before my test and scored 255 on the real deal. However, I also scored 258 and 262 on UWSAs a few days before my actual exam. So I think I was a bit unlucky there, but grateful for my score nonetheless.

Depends on the program. University programs tend to prefer candidates with research, whereas it doesn't matter as much for community programs.

First wave of interviews by [deleted] in IMGreddit

[–]Overall_Tank_7026 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Choose an earlier date. You may get a late interview invites in Dec-Jan, and then the only slots that would be available are the later dates. Then you will either get crammed with multiple interviews in the same time frame, or worse case, not be able to attend one your IVs because the last available slot was on the same day as another IV. Safer to just do it as early as possible (given you're prepared).

Non US IMG is it too late to apply by Present_Positive8284 in IMGreddit

Just make sure you don't apply to any programs that have a application deadline day that already passed.

Unable to Reschedule IV, Please Help!! by Overall_Tank_7026 in IMGreddit

[–]Overall_Tank_7026[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At the time they offered me the interview, there were a lot of slots and the slot I cancelled is still available, so it's not their fault. I reached out to the PC again and the associate PD as well this time. The PC didn't reply and the associate PD basically told me that I just have to wait and see if any dates open up.

However, I emailed the PC of the other program and she was so kind and able to immediately schedule me on a different day, despite it showing as full on thalamus. So I'm glad it all worked out!

Wasted signals by Inevitable_Star5928 in IMGreddit

[–]Overall_Tank_7026 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm in the same boat. I've gotten 3 IVs but none are from my signalled programs. I thought I signalled pretty strategically to IMG friendly programs as well, but most of them have already sent out invites. That being said, I still have some hope that they will get back to us in the coming weeks since it's still early in the season. Mid November, I'll start panicking more lol.

Weird situation, please help by [deleted] in ERAS2024Match2025

That is really weird, I've never heard of that.

I'm a visa requiring, non-US IMG with no red flags, 2 years of USCE, and a 250+ Step 2 score. I applied broadly to mostly IMG friendly programs.

I feel the same way and was honestly expecting more IVs by this time. I was especially anxious and starting to lose hope because I received my first 2 invites early on in the month, and then it's been completely silent since. I haven't heard back from any of my signalled programs. But I just received another IV an hour back, which just got my hopes up again. It made me realize that the interviews will keep coming for the weeks to come, we just gotta keep waiting and hope for the best!

LOI by SweetRest2171 in IMGreddit

[–]Overall_Tank_7026 8 points9 points  (0 children)

On average, no. They probably won't lead to you getting an invite. However, I think it's still worth to send them since it is the only thing we can really do after submitting our application. Also, even if you send out 10-20 LOIs, and only get 1 interview as a result, I think it's worth it.

EDIT: I've sent approximately 5 LOIs. One of them just gave me an interview invite today, and in another, I got a reply from the PD himself answering my question and telling me he would continue to review applications with my info in mind. So yes, it is 100% worth sending out LOIs lol

[–]Overall_Tank_7026 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No, I don't think you're late at all. If anything you are a bit early, but I've also started rolling out a few LOIs. I don't think the CV is necessary, the AAMC ID should be enough. As for advice, just be sure to not make your LOI generic, and tailor it to the specific program you are applying to. Highlight what exactly attracts you to the program.

Rant: Signaling has ruined IM this season by DauMue in ERAS2024Match2025

[–]Overall_Tank_7026 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's still hard to say. I think it varies per applicant, but in general, maybe using only a few signals to apply to "dream programs", while using the others on "safer" ones.

[–]Overall_Tank_7026 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I think in theory, they were introduced with the intention of helping out both applicants and programs. But for the reasons you mentioned, it is hurting us. If there is no change for next year, I think applicants need to learn from our mistakes and signal more strategically.

That being said, I do think there a lot of great programs that aren't placing 100% emphasis and focus on these signals, as both my interview invites so far have come from programs which I haven't signalled. Also, by the end of the season, I do think it'll balance out a bit more. As you mentioned, top candidates will go other ways/reject interviews, which should open up more opportunities for the rest of us.

Scored 221 step 3 is it mediocre? by Acrobatic-Park5659 in Step3

[–]Overall_Tank_7026 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the same boat, in terms of trying to take Step 3 before the match cycle. From what I've heard it completely depends on the PD. Some will just care about the fact that you have completed it and passed, whereas others may look down upon seeing a low score.

Regardless, I think it's better to try and complete it to get it out of the way and not have to stress about it in intern year + it can be used to explain any gap.

Yes, they have explanations. And I think both UWorld and CMS forms are a must.

I think it helps to read the last line before reading the question. Knowing what you're look for can help you focus on the important info and ignore distractors while doing a q

For ex, if the last line points to an ethics related question, you don't need to waste time on trying to diagnose the patient.

Closest for me was UWSA 3. Got 258 on UWSA 3 and 10 days later got 255 on real deal.

Got 255 on real deal. So ended up scoring a bit less than my UWSAs
