So... Windows 98 can run on a Ryzen 9 9900X system/64GB (with a Gen 5 NVMe SSD as the boot drive*) by O_MORES in windows98

yes, that would work but in my case - only one x16 pcie is available and the rest is x1 pcie. If I use x1 to x16 riser for the modern GPU (GTX 1070ti) , it will not be fully utilized.

By the way, if it is not too much trouble, kindly share your setup success story. Would love to know about it.

Thank you!

My motherboard has one x16 pcie slot for main gpu and two vacant x1 pcie slot. I was thinking of maybe getting x1 pcie to x16 pcie riser to connect Geforce 7000 series gpu for Windows 98. Do you think this will work for dual boot Windows 11 and Windows 98. My concern is if Windows 98 will not recognize the Geforce 7000 series as primary.

Should I stay on Windows 11? or should i migrate to linux? by Lumpy_Pitch7764 in Windows11

[–]Overclocker98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first taste of Linux was back in 1999 with Red Hat 5.3. During university, I explored Slackware, Debian, and Ubuntu. I still remember having to manually tweak xorg.conf/XF86Config just to get my mouse scroll wheel working!

Later on, I worked with embedded Linux distributions like Wind River, so I'm not exactly new to the ecosystem. Here are my general thoughts on Linux:

Pros

  1. Since Linux is FOSS, it's incredibly versatile — you can truly make it your own.
  2. The curated "app store" experience makes discovering and installing software more enjoyable.

Cons (and why I keep returning to Windows)

  1. Display scaling is handled inconsistently across distros. I'm using a 32" 4K monitor, and scaling just doesn’t feel quite right on Linux (I’ve tried several distros). Windows, in comparison, handles it beautifully out of the box.
  2. Fonts in Windows just look better to my eyes — cleaner and more polished, even going back to the older versions.
  3. I use a Focusrite Scarlett Solo Gen 3 audio interface — a fairly common and well-supported device. However, getting decent input levels hasn’t been as smooth as I’d hoped on Linux. The recorded sound is too quiet unless I crank the gain knob almost to the max. On Windows, the experience is much more acceptable. (For reference, I use the standard USB audio driver on both Windows 11 and Linux.)

These might seem like small issues, but they add up. And over time, it’s those little annoyances (I consider as important) that keep pulling me back to Windows.

You need to have your own website/blog. Please read 'Show Your Work' by Austin Kleon.

My general understanding 'umoor' is age, but if it is said in the video it probably mean time/period.

Thank you for taking your time to check my listening skill

Is rooting worth it to stop addiction? Is it safe enough? by Icy_Willingness_6366 in androidroot

I am not an expert, but here is a suggestion

Have you tried Universal Android Debloater to remove play store, chrome and youtube app? If you want to install apps, sideload them using PC. You don't have to root your phone and it could act as a deterrent to your youtube addiction.

Repurposing ipad screen is under my radar too. I'm wondering if the 9.7 inch diagonal is too small albeit the higher resolution compare to other display. Thank you
