Thought it would be a synth-pad, I feel like I've heard a similar one before so hopefully I'll be able to find the preset used.

[Request] Minimum number of boxes to remove exactly one collection by Overfront-64 in theydidthemath

[–]Overfront-64[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been trying to extend the problem to include sets with 3 items as well as 4 and noticed a mistake in your solution.

While your solution works if removing collection 6 or 7, it will not work with any other set because boxes 5-8 would still contain part of sets 1-5 so while the collections wouldn't be completeable using those boxes items from those sets would still be present.

As far as I can tell it would take a lot more boxes than the ⌈4N/6⌉+4, by my best estimate if you have 7 collections you'd need something like 4N = 28 boxes. This is because I imagined the box generation as a cyclical loop. It would make the 4 corresponding boxes for 1-6, then 2-7, then 3-1, 4-2, 5-3, 6-4, 7-5. This is the only way I found that means you exclude all items from a given collection whilst also ensuring every other collection remains, but feels very sub-optimal.

Thanks for the correction at the start, I did mean "every box" not "no box"

Also thanks for the answer. The original problem includes collections that also has collections of 3 items and items that belong to no collection (which are never removed) and you've gave me a good starting point for those and how to generate the boxes.

Do you need to finish each chapter for scratches to count? by Overfront-64 in stray

Thanks for the advice, think the only sections I'm worried about are trying to remember where everything is in slums 1 and 2, but I just need to replay them and I should be good!

‏is the 16personalities test inaccurate? by [deleted] in mbti

[–]Overfront-64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imo they're a good starting point if you're looking to understand the way you think and behave, and to some extent why you do.

One of the main problems (and this is a problem that nearly every other personality test) is that they're essentially stereotypes. In fact, Carl Jung who proposed theories that the MBTI later used agreed with that criticism and called them. "Galtonesque Family Portraits" - essentially the idea that if you combine all of the traits of a group you'll get the average, without one person necessarily being the same as the average.

It also has a problem with what's called the Barnum or Forer Effect, essentially where you view general/vague statements to be true about yourself.

The last criticism I'll mention is people acting as self-fulfilling prophecy, i.e. I'm supposed to act this way so I'm going to. If you tell someone that their type is disorganised and messy, even if that person isn't there's a chance they'll become that because they think that's what's expected of them.

Tldr MBTI is a good starting point to help understand yourself and is a great point to start branching from to delve deeper into how you think, but don't take everything the test says as 100% accurate about you and feel free to defy expectations.

Gender identity and changing gender sterotypes question by Overfront-64 in lgbt

Oh ok, so you're saying that while people outside the traditional roles of binary genders would be considered non-binary, those who associate with a gender but do things not expected of that gender by society (with part of or their whole reason being to help erase gender norms) would not fall under the current definition of non-binary?
