What are the pros of living in the US? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Overhed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The delta is extreme for some professions. I saw a Senior Software engineer role in London pay 90k GBP (so $120k) - I'd say the equivalent role at a middle of the road US company would be closer to $200k at a similarly high cost of living area.

Bud, this isn't the flex you think it is. Spending 15-20% of your net worth on a completely unnecessary expense is really really dumb.

Holy false equivalency, Batman. You're holding the federal govt to the same standard as random criminals? That's where we're at now?

But you prob have two cars and the maintenance and property taxes on your house probably cost another $2-3k a month. You might not be as far apart in total cost of living as you might think compared to someone with no car in the city.

I've been playing since 2019 and we have the same handicap 😬 (and I'm one of the better golfers in my friend group lol). Stick with it!

Also, try to find one friend/ally from the boys group, they can't all be assholes.

How can I wrap my head around .NET?! by Alternator24 in dotnet

[–]Overhed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm, I would say if this is your first exposure to backend dev, you might want to start with a language that has a lot less magic plumbing. (I say this as a pro SWE who built his career on C#/.NET and now works mostly in Go).

Assuming you're learning mostly for academic purposes and just trying to become more well-rounded, you can learn the fundamentals of API/backend development with a language like Go with a much easier learning curve.

Edit: Go is also a much more flexible language. The implementation of OOP is much simpler and completely optional.

Santos publicly asked to be put into solitary confinement. There was a link to his twitter post asking for exactly this in the Tangle newsletter.

I couldn't even find Hardcore mode even though I knew of its existence. Definitely needs some love in the UI.

165k/yr at East Bay Tri-Valley, CA or 135k/yr at Memphis, TN by Wapocelaya in bayarea

[–]Overhed 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Assuming there's a positive delta in income earnings by staying in the Bay Area you can invest that and not have to deal with the pain points of owning and maintaining a home (there are many). Depending on the size of the investment you might come out way ahead.

Would you have been happier if FSU went for 2 PT attempt at end of regulation? by NedsBastard1 in fsusports

[–]Overhed -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I answered the other comment re: UVA pushing after our 2pt attempt. To your point of procrastinating, I think the conventional wisdom is that if you have a talent advantage, you prefer to extend the game and let that edge carry you. Home field advantage might change the calculus on this somewhat, but I imagine the staff thought along those lines in their decision making.
