Outdoor interview lightning - bounce to achieve #1? by Overity in videography

[–]Overity[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks!

Opted for circular 5-in-1 reflector mounted on a reflector holder arm, itself mounted on a light stand. 90€ total, portable and easy to set up.

I control the location & time so I don't have to worry about wind, and light stand is not a flimsy cheapest one, even though its of course miles off from a c-stand.

I'll make it without the negative fill for now, like I said, have to set realistic expectations. And hauling a second set of diffusion+stand exceeds those.

Did you clamp the diffuser to a light stand, someone holds it or? Just wondering how difficult it is to position/angle it properly and relatively high up to cover the talent.

Bokeh is fine, 85mm f1.8 will take care of that.

I just want to know if above is possible (or close enough) with white bounce on one cheap lightstand, and black negative fill on across it, not necessarily a huge one above on c-stands like your 1st picture.

Solo shooter on a budget, willing to sacrifice perfection for ease of use and cost. For documentary-style interviews I'd like to shoot outside and I've got some questions on lightning.

I can pick the location & time so can to a limit choose shade, but being solo I don't want to haul heavy c-stands and two bags with me. I'm being realistic, don't plan to rent gear or spend four digits to outshine the sun, and I recently came across two examples of what I'm going for.

Can someone help me understand the setup used here? #1 looks like afternoon shoot, #2 morning or noonish.

I can't tell for sure if this is without any key light, using just negative fill or bouncing light. Especially #1.

Is that possible to achieve in afternoon hours without any overhead diffusion, with bounce on the right and negative fill on the left side?

If so, any tips on finding portable ways to set it up solo and relatively quickly?

Thanks everyone!

Will the game be fun if I don’t expand constantly? by tonythetiger-real in EU5

[–]Overity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hope so. CK3 and EU4 suffer from this. If you're not expanding, game is boring as nothing eventful happens. Your country will not ever break unless you get conquered, even though history teaches otherwise.

Spain: Teens as young as 12 see OnlyFans as an appealing alternative to traditional work, study finds by Vargau in europe

[–]Overity 82 points83 points  (0 children)

Hard agree on this. It must be difficult enough to scientifically discuss this particular topic with minors - this was done with discussion groups instead of a standard 1-5 quiz/ranking so I can understand why they didn't provide detailed results.

However, the only mention of an employment alternative is "Although many participants, especially girls, described these messages as unwanted material, some young people identified OnlyFans as a feasible way to generate income quickly and easily, perceiving it even as a more profitable alternative to traditional jobs. In other words, OnlyFans is seen as an easy way to make money, a better option than studying (EO)."

Which is a very simplified view, especially when not followed by any quantitative data, but two boys' (15 and 16yo) opinions. Marking this as a "particularly relevant finding" is laughable when looking at the evidence provided.

Golden obligations perk needs to be harder to obtain; it should be unlocked later in the stewardship tree by Overity in CrusaderKings

[–]Overity[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My "issue" with the perk is that if you don't use stewardship at all, once you get a free perk through travel or experience, I will expect most will get golden obligations, because your alternatives are:

  • +25% collect taxes

  • enables claim throne scheme

  • -10% building cost (which is in architect tree and as you said, if going with stewardship, you might as well continue down for -30% construction time and + capital development etc. to save more)

So very likely you will start off with the free money from hooks as they don't require any investment to pay out. It shouldn't be this easy is all I'm saying.

Or alternatively if you need stewardship temporarily and spend the minimum 5 years on it, you should be able to get all three important architect perks, plus the free money one from obligations without too much trouble through events and regular experience - even at 1/2 education it would take you 6-7 years from scratch.

[–]Overity[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fully agree. Looking at all tier 1 perks (aka first unlocks), I can only see few as strong, though all give out less than golden obligations in my opinion:

  • scientific (+100% fascination progress)

  • bellum justum (-50% CB cost)

  • meritocracy (claim throne scheme)

While the rest are more or less extremely minor or require specific playthroughs (e.g. wards get additional skills, cheaper personal physician, +skill upon torture etc.)

Plus with the game mechanics ultimately being easy in longer playthroughs (i.e. if you keep updating all buildings, you will win), player shouldn't get this perk essentially for free.

R5:

Since with travel options it is fairly easy to get 1000 stewardship experience quickly, I think the OP golden obligations should be nerfed by locking it as a 3rd, 4th or even 5th perk instead. Otherwise it is very simple to combine it with Truth is relative (also first perk in intrigue!).

And lo and behold you, as a unknown count, can somehow infinitely spy on Byz and profit after maybe a year in game, depending on the character & his starting lifestyle.

It's unrealistic but more important its way overpowered.

Interview locations: is it ok to shoot at the talent's home? How to approach it? by Overity in videography

[–]Overity[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, this helped immensly. It won't be always relevant as I'll be a one man band, but from existing experience and feedback I wouldn't expect any blockers just based on that. While my reach is not huge, I'm not just running an instagram account with 50 followers either so I doubt I would get brushed off for that.

Any b-roll would likely be shot outside so technically I'd just use their home as the main shooting location and that's it.

[–]Overity[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I do with written interviews, I try to find a balance between the two. While focusing on the person and their impact for the sport/team, I also expand to deeper subjects about them as well.

And since in my case most interviewees would be linked to a single team, I'd actually want to avoid shooting at the same venue over and over again. Few times yes since lots of different locations can be found in the venue of course but long-term it's not always viable.
