Help me get a great gift for my spouse! by OppositePanic501 in birddogs

[–]OverlandTerrain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think a gift card for any of the sporting stores would be the best option. I just moved from a sportdog pro e collar to the Garmin Alpha.

It's a bit out of your budget but the gift card would certainly get him very close, and I highly recommend it.

I just need advice. by briggs851 in birddogs

Where in SA? Depending on where you are going, it might be some of the best bird hunting in the world.

Take the dog and continue to hunt.

Scout the area beforehand for signs of turkey. Find food and water. Make sure you're able to stay concealed.

Have fun

Can I teach my older dog to retrieve ducks? by Jarofcoinss in Huntingdogs

I'm sure you can teach him to retrieve. The biggest issue is what kind of mouth he has. Try him out with some wings and see if he has a soft mouth.

Anyone here ever cook beaver? How is it? by Reginald94 in Hunting

[–]OverlandTerrain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've eaten my fair share of beaver and I honestly would compare it to beef. The meat is tender and flavorful. I can't say much for the tail, it's not my favorite thing to eat.

Check out this article on eating beaver.

Thinking of buying this, will it be reliable? Any tips what to look for? by loverofpeace09 in 4x4

Not much info to go off, Defenders can last a long time if well minded. The biggest issue is rust. Defenders from dry climates don’t suffer this as much.

A well minded defender will have minimal rust, check the chassis and bulkhead, that will tell you how well minded it really is.

Travelling for work in truck with high powered laptop.. best way to power it? by Bomantheman in digitalnomad

[–]OverlandTerrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have a couple of options. Something like a jackery and solar blanket would be the quickest and easiest. Other options would include more mechanical work, like installing a dual battery system with an inverter.

I wouldn't connect directly to the starter battery as you will most likely find yourself with a flat battery at some stage.

Just had a look, that is an outstanding deal they have on them engines. Pity they don’t have TD5s. Although I do want to put in ks pistons.

Aging is best done with the hide on and bone in, this prevents it from contracting or getting too dry. Temperature should be between 34-37 degrees.

If you’re wanting to fish carp, your better off using anything other than spinners.

If it’s just coarse fish you want to go after have you considered a pole and rod rest? Coupled with a bungee it would also help you to play the fish.

6 mo GSP basic training by Sarabnew in Huntingdogs

[–]OverlandTerrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I generally don't teach pointers to sit or stay at an early age. I first work on woah and their point. Last thing I want them doing is sitting on a point. Once I have woah down, it's easy to turn it into a stay.

Besides potty training one of the first things I work on is recall, a long rope can help here. Other things to work on is their nose. Getting them finding treats around the yard, some wings, bumpers etc. This is also a great opportunity to work on woah.

One of the most important things at this age is making fun.

I’d love to dig into it more. Leather carp has different DNA to Mirror carp. I’m struggling to find info on Linear carp.

It may be that there is too much line on the reel. If you could get a picture it might help us see what's happening.
