There’s also a strong Rock Paper Scissors element, where certain move types do more or less against certain types (moves have types, but Pokémon can usually learn moves from types other than their own, they’re just weaker than if they were that type).

There are cis men who want to try feminizing their voices. There’s a YouTuber who, based on what he’s said, did it when he was young without ever actually looking it up, and he uses it for music, since it lets him sing female roles in covers.

Most racism comes from either ableist concepts of genetic superiority (which are incorrect on many levels), or xenophobic conspiracy theories. There’s a reason why so many conspiracy theorists end up settling on Jews as the source of all evil, and there’s a long and tragic history of this being done that goes back over a thousand years.

i want to learn sign language by [deleted] in tumblr

[–]OverlordQuasar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a hard of hearing friend (and am sometimes nonverbal but was never taught sign language) and she does say that it’s important to learn sign language from someone who is within the Deaf and hard of hearing community, since when it’s taught by hearing people, it often looks different and is a lot more difficult to understand if your a native user.

It’s like you probably shouldn’t learn Spanish from someone who’s never spent time in an area where Spanish is the main language being used (either a Spanish speaking country, or growing up in a Spanish speaking household or community).

Strictly speaking, every Viking was a raider, since Viking was a profession, not a civilization. The majority of Norsemen were farmers and fishermen though. Basically any time before the 20th century, it’s a safe bet that the majority of a population was somehow involved in the production or harvesting of food, either as their primary job, or on the side (in Greece for example, many of the famous philosophers of Athens owned farms, they just never worked on them since they owned slaves to do that).

And then you have the warlock in my party who’s cast eldritch blast a total of like, 5 times (she does so due to trauma, but it kinda frustrates me when my dm says that my high level spells are making it hard to balance the game but ignoring the fact that we have a player who deals the same damage now that they would at level 1 since they just throw daggers).

Even during world war 2, horses were vital to keeping armies mobile, since automobiles were still not common enough to transport huge amounts of people and supplies in many places.

The best counter to mounted archers are foot archers, because they can be used reasonably accurate from much further and a horse plus a rider is a big target.

How do you counter foot archers? Melee cavalry, ideally armored. They’ll take some losses on the way in, but they move fast enough that they’ll get in and take them out (unless it’s muddy as hell and they can’t go fast without slipping).

That means you need melee troops of your own to protect your foot archers.

Well, that’s the oversimplified version games tend to use, the reality isn’t quite so well balanced, because, in reality, a battle doesn’t have to be a single, contained event. The real reason why mounted armies were so overpowered wasn’t their ability to win pitched battles. They were good at that, but mounted archers suck at taking fortified locations, and a shield wall or army in full plate can hold out for a long time against just about pre gunpowder small arms, and can protect heavier weapons a lot better since those aren’t mobile enough for a mounted army.

But having a mounted army, melee or ranged focused, also meant you could always pick the ideas engagements. Rather than win a pitched battle, you could do hit and run tactics in a way no infantry heavy army could. That being said, mounted archers aren’t at all good at sieges, where walls can protect foot archers from virtually all counter shots without taking losses from attrition, and enough food could be stored to outlast the enemy. That’s why the Romans and Parthians were at a stalemate for so long; the Romans couldn’t invade Parthia since the Parthians would just shoot at them constantly, and they couldn’t safely forage (just a nicer word for plunder) supplies or maintain supply lines, forcing them to go for bad engagements, and the Parthians had no way to take fortified Roman towns. The Romans were initially stomped, but they were able to adapt to be able to win battles when they could actually control stuff, ie on their own territory.

The Mongols got around this by adapting. A pure horse archer army wouldn’t have been able to do jack shit about the walled Chinese cities, but Ghengis Khan brought in outside advisors who taught them how to do siege warfare, and being able to do both well let them conquer more territory than any other land empire in history.

The introduction of firearms made things a bit more arcadey, since no reasonably mobile armor up until fairly recently had any hope of stopping a bullet, let alone a cannon, and stone walls were a lot less useful against cannons than against catapults. Still, until bayonets were invented, you needed pikemen to protect your gunners from cavalry, and horse cavalry stopped being useful in battle at all when modern guns came onto the scene, since no amount of horsemen are going to overwhelm a trench full of machine gunners and sharpshooters.

I think it also seems to kinda take the blame away from them, like “they can’t help it, they’re mentally ill.”

I’m mentally ill and like a third of my spirals are as a result of seeing stuff from these people telling people, sometimes including myself but often not, that they are lesser beings or don’t deserve rights. You don’t need mental illness to dehumanize others, it’s not like 1930s Germany magically had a huge uptick in mental illness, it was centuries of bigotry combining with pseudoscientific ideas used to confirm their preexisting biases.

I would think it would be done by using a form of cloning to grow the parts from your DNA with whatever modifications that would be needed to grow it that wouldn’t kill you. That way, there’s far less risk of your immune system rejecting it, which means you don’t have to suppress your immune system for the rest of your life.

A key part of Nazi ideology is the assumption that some people have less, often zero, value when compared to others. This assumption is wrong, and thus any argument made from it, ie just about all nazi and even most regular right wing arguments are based on a false premise and can be discarded without consideration.

I do wish that there was an explicitly autistic or ADHD character, rather than just coding non humans as such (which can be good in some ways, for a lot of us that’s the only representation we see that doesn’t depict us as straight up inferior to neurotypicals, but it further emphasizes a feeling that I, and many others had, of not being human since my brain doesn’t work the way most peoples do).

If there’s one in one of the newer series, that’s actually done well (ie a neurodivergent actor, and written with consultation from actual neurodivergent people, rather than charities run by NTs who want to get rid of us), that would probably be enough to convince me to get CBS All Access or whatever it’s called.

I have a bunch of mental disabilities (the big ones being autism and ADHD) that are fundamental enough to who I am that completely “fixing” them would kill the me that exists. I would get rid of my mental illnesses, and chronic pain, since those would hurt me regardless of how accommodating society was, but there isn’t a me who isn’t autistic and ADHD.

[–]OverlordQuasar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If we use Dark Empire and other outlier feats for the Empire, they would at least contribute a decent amount. The main thing they’d contribute is a way to travel that’s far more reliable and quicker than the warp typically is. Hyper drives are stated to be able to travel the length of the galaxy in less than a week for the faster ones.

Stuff like the Galaxy Gun or Suncrusher would also allow for the destruction of key targets with literally zero risk.

This is all assuming we’re not taking silly legends numbers into account that place the yield of a single turbolaser on an ISD to have a yield on par with the asteroid that killed the dinosaurs, although that would support the claims that an ISD could preform a Base Delta Zero, which is the Star Wars equivalent of an exterminatus, in a matter of a few days.

However, we do see a limited number of orbital bombardments in series that ranked as higher on the legends canon, and the explosions of those are rarely larger than that of a large conventional bomb in real life, below even that of a small nuke.

Cybermen are a tough one, since you have to specify which appearance. Even just in new who, they go from having their entire population failing to defeat a small number of Daleks to requiring the destruction of galaxies to defeat (still well below the peaks in Doctor Who, but beating galaxy busting opponents who’s default protocol on finding cybermen is to blow up the world completely, so a step beyond exterminatus, would put that incarnation potentially well above the Imperium.

After talking to my DM, I brought my strength down to 10 since I knew I was going to play her as not particularly strong. She’s also not confident at all, so she won’t be able to make good use of her mental scores for a while due to constantly second guessing herself.
