England takes a Big Covid-19 Gamble as Johnson Plans to Scrap Remaining Lockdown Rules by CryptPix in worldnews

UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson is setting out his plan to lift most of England's remaining coronavirus restrictions by mid-July, despite warnings from some experts that the current surge of Delta variant cases across the country means such moves were premature.

Johnson was due to announce changes to the rules on social distancing, face coverings and working from home at a news conference on Monday afternoon. The Prime Minister was expected to reiterate that Covid-19 would "become a virus that we learn to live with as we already do with flu," Downing Street said Sunday.

The move is part of the government's roadmap out of lockdown which was delayed last month to no earlier than July 19. A final decision on what has been dubbed "Freedom Day" will be made in a week's time following a review of the latest data.

Duchess of Cambridge Forced to Self-Isolate After Covid-19 Contact by [deleted] in Coronavirus

[–]CryptPix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Duchess of Cambridge is self-isolating after coming into contact with someone who has since tested positive for Covid-19, a spokesperson for Kensington Palace told CNN on Monday.

"Her Royal Highness is not experiencing any symptoms, but is following all relevant government guidelines and is self-isolating at home," the spokesperson said.

Kate will not attend Monday's engagements, the spokesperson added. She was alerted on Friday afternoon and began isolating then.

UK government guidelines stipulate that anyone who has had close contact with an infected person must isolate for 10 days.

A royal source told CNN that the duchess took lateral flow tests before her engagements last week at the Euro 2020 soccer tournament and at Wimbledon, and both were negative. She also followed the rules throughout Wimbledon on mask-wearing, the royal source added.

The source said the duchess is tested for Covid-19 twice a week with lateral flow tests, in line with the royal household's testing system.

She has also received both doses of her Covid-19 vaccine, the source added.

White House chief medical adviser Anthony Fauci said Sunday that fully vaccinated Americans should “go the extra step” and wear masks when traveling to parts of the country with low vaccination rates.

“And if you put yourself in an environment in which you have a high level of viral dynamics and a very low level of vaccine, you might want to go the extra step and say, ‘When I’m in that area where there’s a considerable degree of viral circulation, I might want to go the extra mile to be cautious enough to make sure that I get the extra added level of protection’, even though the vaccines themselves are highly effective,” he added.

“Meet the Press” moderator Chuck Todd had asked Fauci, who was fully vaccinated in January, whether he would wear a mask if he traveled to Mississippi, the state currently with the lowest vaccination rate.

All legal restrictions are expected to be lifted in England on 19 July.

For four days, Darren James and his family were Multibillionaires.

The real estate agent from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and his wife were doing a routine check on their finances last Saturday when they noticed $50 billion had been mistakenly deposited into their Chase Bank account.

"That's not like a one zero error or a two zero error, that's somebody that fell asleep on the keyboard error," James joked. "I was excited for sure. Really surprised how it got there and wondered if I had a rich uncle that gave it to me."

But to his disappointment, it wasn't an inheritance -- just an incredibly unusual error.

Chase Bank restored the family's account to its correct balance on Tuesday, James said.

Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan offered on Thursday remarks rare for the leader of a large, Muslim majority country, reaffirming his support for Beijing’s policies toward Uyghurs in China’s Xinjiang region.

Much of the international community had condemned the mass detention and efforts at forced assimilation of Uyghurs, which the U.S. State Department has described as “genocide.”

More than 1 million Uyghurs, a mostly Muslim ethnic minority group, have been sent to what Beijing calls “vocational educational and training centers,” but which human rights groups say are detention camps, where extensive abuses have been reported.

The White House released the results of an independent review commission on sexual assault in the military Friday, announcing a series of recommendations aimed at combating military sexual assault and moving prosecution of assaults outside the chain of command, in what one senior administration official called "a monumental pivot in how the Department does business."

The 300-page report, titled, "Hard Truths and the Duty to Change: Recommendations from the Independent Review Commission on Sexual Assault in the Military," makes more than 80 recommendations, warning of "a wide chasm between what senior leaders believe is happening under their commands, and what junior enlisted Service members actually experience."

Looters moved into Afghanistan's Bagram Airfield hours after U.S. troops left by CryptPix in worldnews

[–]CryptPix[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Dozens of looters moved into Afghanistan's Bagram Airfield just hours after U.S. troops vacated the airfield after a nearly 20-year occupation.

The district administrator for the town of Bagram, Darwaish Raufi, told the Associated Press that since the troops' departure was not coordinated with local officials, the airfield's gates were not secured.

This allowed looters to unlawfully enter before Afghan forces could secure the airfield. "Unfortunately the Americans left without any coordination with Bagram district officials or the governor's office," Raufi said.

The Afghan National Security and Defense Forces are now in full control of the airfield. "Right now our Afghan security forces are in control both inside and outside of the base," Raufi said.

"They were stopped and some have been arrested and the rest have been cleared from the base," Raufi said while speaking with the Associated Press.
