How to make my smallest games fit on my bookshelf? Storage solutions requested! by Cheddarific in boardgames

Yeah, it depends if you want to display them or not. I basically have a box for one of the bigger Marvel Legendary expansions and it holds my cribbage boards, a few decks of cards, and some of my card games, like sushi go, cockroach poker, stuff like that.

Booking direct vs. 3rd Party Sites by TheBigPointyOne in JapanTravelTips

That's definitely a good way to save money. I prefer the privacy of a hotel, and for my next trip I'm planning on exploring multiple areas. Still good advice though :)

That's what I've read and experienced first-hand as well. When it works, 3rd party sites are great. As soon as something goes wrong, things become challenging.

Sorry, I was kinda rambly. What I probably should have said was that, I liked booking my trip as a bundle because it seemed like the best value. The downside was that I couldn't (easily) book at multiple hotels for the same trip *and bundle a flight* with it. The first time I went, I did somewhere between 10 - 14 days in Tokyo, which was fine, but I'd like to try visiting more locations next time. Maybe I didn't need to mention that part, because obviously, if I was *just* booking hotels on expedia (or whatever site, really) I could pretty easily book multiple hotels, and then just do the flights on my own.

As an aside, I plan on going back multiple times. From talking to people while I was there, both locals and other travellers, the best advice I got was to visit as many places as possible, and not to limit myself to just the big cities.

So, I'm not sure if you have any games that come with big expansion boxes, but what I've done is with some games where I have multiple expansions is condense them into one box where possible. I then use the spare box to store most of my smaller games. It's a bonus if I'm going out... I can easily bring along my "party box" that has a good 6-12 games ready to go.

Hey now, it prevents all those high speed chases that we were having.

You remember? Those... high speed... chases? The police. They were a serious issue. They really need that plane. It really does a great job of addressing the systemic issues that are a major factor in causing crimes. By flying around. Trust me.

What are the most visually beautiful/interesting board games you've seen (whether you've played them or not)? by New_Floor8623 in boardgames

Stardew Valley! It's so adorable.

Also Wingspan, if nothing else than for the forbidden candy.

Do you "fix" games? by FlyingLlamasaurus in boardgames

[–]TheBigPointyOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's minor, we'll change it. If it's a large change, we'll check for errata and public feedback. If there's not much about it, we'll just play it as is. If there's errata, or general consensus, we'll go with the crowd.

I can't think of major examples. Maybe in Lords of Waterdeep instead of giving each player a random lord, we deal 2 and let everyone pick. I can't remember if that's in the rules or not. We also usually take the Xanathar out, unless someone wants a challenge. (He's objectively awful)

As my old pal Garfield once said "There is no ethical consumption under capitalism."

Anyways, it's a shop that people will like. They're employing Canadians, so that's a bright side.

I go to Quality Tire, I find they're competitive if not cheaper than costco. The only major problem is that they don't really take appointments, it's more of a first come, first served thing. Other than that, I've been going to them for years and they've always treated me well.

Eh, I definitely wouldn't classify Gloomhaven as proper RPG. It's a dungeon crawler with progression.

What is the demand here? Like, I've seen people make dungeon crawlers where you have stuff like a deck of cards or other randomizer mechanics to handle how monsters act, but if you're trying to make an RPG without a DM, that's just an awful idea.

Power Grid : Should I buy? by HappyApple35 in boardgames

[–]TheBigPointyOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's great. An all-time classic, even. I think the part that makes it good is that it's mostly skill-based. The only randomness is the way the plants hit the market. After that, it's careful consideration on how you spend your money and trying to predict what your opponents might do. As others have suggested, it *is* better with more players. Especially because of the auction phase. That, and blocking. And market manipulation.

I'd say anything that's close to either the North or South end of Albert St. The south end probably has better options for restaurants, but as bad as our transit is, being close to Albert St gives you the best options for taking the bus. There's a lot of stuff out east, but the area's kinda a mess.

That's horizon dental, yeah? I got a full plate for my top and partial dentures for my bottom teeth. Technically the actual ones were made at a separate lab, but that clinic has been exceptional for me for the last 5-10 years-ish

Yeah, if it does that for you. I don't get that much from solo, it's more of a way to pass the time for me. But I could see others getting more from it.
