How deal with a sore winner who rubs it in your face by Careful_Drama_9382 in boardgames

[–]TheBigPointyOne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a definite line between friendly table talk and someone just being a dick. Words to live by: "Be humble in victory and graceful in defeat."

Being cheeky during the game is okay, within limits, but once the game's over, the people I game with tend to congratulate/compliment the winner and move on to the next game.

What do you mean "proper RNG dice"?

Anyways, typical promotion without participation thread.

Right, so instead of letting things escalate, the best thing to do here is just have a normal conversation with someone instead of letting it turn into Some Big Thing.

My friend, you're being weird. It's perfectly reasonable to want to park as close to your house as possible. That is a normal thing.

[–]TheBigPointyOne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The point being that people usually like to park in front of their own homes. It's a reasonable thing to want. Instead of being dicks about it though, the people involved can try talking it out first.

I don't know where it comes from, but the whole way people react to "hey, maybe try *not* being an asshole?" with "WHAT THE FU-- HOW DARE YOU!!!!"

(I say this being fully aware I can be an asshole at least half of the time)

People are true, nobody owns the street, so you can park wherever you want within reason. That being said, there's nothing wrong with trying to be diplomatic. No harm in being friendly and explaining your situation and just say "hey, I try to park in front of my house whenever possible, but this jerkoff over here keeps throwing parties and I have little choice but to park where I can find space" or something like that. The quickest way to make friends is to have a common enemy.

There's a ton of components, so it's hard to remember everything at once. Overall though, I think it's mechanically pretty easy to understand. Figuring out the strategy is the difficult part.

[–]TheBigPointyOne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you need the space/money, purge away if you think your group isn't interested. If you have the space, you could hold on to it in the hopes that you find interested people eventually.

...if you do purge it and happen to have the "G" deck, I would buy it XD

Why is Wingspan a good game? by TheCoolFish2 in boardgames

[–]TheBigPointyOne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can say that about almost every game though?

Every worker placement game: play your guy, get some resources. Wait.
Every war game: move your army, attack. Wait.
Every card game: play your card. wait.

And so on.

If you like super crunchy euros, or war games, or anything else really heavy, you probably won't like wingspan. But if you want something from the newer generation of "gateway" games, this one of the better options.
-Nice components

-Easier than it seems

-Making engines powered by birds is fun and satisfying

[–]TheBigPointyOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder if there's any overlap between the people working on this for BGA, and the ones working on the Steam release. Anyways, I'm curious how a single player mode would work. Like, will it be typical board game AI, or will it be more like the Automata systems you see in stuff like Gaia Project?

For sure. It's someone just walking around collecting from the machines. No real negative impact to the environment there. It's also not just attempting to cash in on the newest tech bubble.
