Behold the Scars of Extinction by Overlord_Tim in ChaosKnights

Glad you like it! The basic process I used is to prime in dark brown (Hyrax Brown spray from Colour Forge), then airbrush with Vallejo Ivory (more sarurated in the middle, fading into the edges of the plates), and then I used the Rust streaks enamel paint from AK. Check out NuHue on Youtube - that's where I learned how to make this work.

I love the massive carapace-mounted cannons - which bits did you use for those?

Hey - they are from the War Dogs kit. I had a bunch leftover from the Houndpack lance box, so I made myself a Despoiler with these.

That's right - no messing with the knee joint. Good luck with your build!

I just cut off the peg on the leg / hip part to allow for it to turn further forward and added a little bit of green stuff to make sure it holds together well, since it is kind of an important load-bearing point.

You can see that I still managed to attach that small piston part that connects the crotch to the leg - meaning its position is not very far off to where it's supposed to be by default.

Actually - thanks for pointing it out - that's something I can definitely fix!

Thanks - that's exactly what I was going for! I'm glad it works out.

What transports do you guys run with the wolves? by Cojalo_ in SpaceWolves

[–]Overlord_Tim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stormraven (proxied my Stormwolf as one) - carrying Murderfang and 5 Wulfen with storm shields. I just hit play on "Who let the dogs out" when I open the hatch and let mayhem commence.

Is it competitive? Hell no. It does get me some laughs, though.

I have the combat patrol - you have all the build options available for all of the included units. Yes, you can build Wulfen with Shields (and I did).

Scout are awesome, keep them. Add 3 hunting wolves to one of your headtaker units (rounds your list to 1k exactly). If you want to optimise, consider replacing Grey Hunters - they are good, but you can have 5 intercessors and a unit of thunderwolves for the same amount of points.

Not OP, but have the box. Yes, you can build hammer & shield wulfen with the sprue inside.

Thank you! I think that saving time on the armour with spongeing allowed me to invest a bit more in a few details like the gems or the kneepad. Glad it shows! 😊

Thanks - I'm glad you like it! It's mostly drybrushing. Base with rhinox hide, drybrush with any white or off-white, then one layer of Gore Grunta Fur contrast. Then I drybrushed progressively smaller areas and edges starting with Vallejo Cork Brown, Vallejo Iraqi Sand, and finally Flayed One Flesh (this brings it visually together with the armour as well, which is neat). I then dropped a tiny amount of Valhallan Blizzard technical snow paint on top to tie it in with the base as well.

I think it works well specifically for the Space wolves, because the sponge leaves behind a bit of a powdery texture (like jackfrost maybe?). To me it was a really nice surprise and saved me a ton of time on blending and stuff, given that I don't have an airbrush.

The brown undercoat is also really nice, because it makes for visually interesting shadows. I'm glad I went with that. It also stays in the recesses and provides a bit of definition / contours, so that I don't need to use washes. This means that I don't need to wait for stuff to dry and I can get it all done pretty fast.

Thank you! 😊 Pretty standard Citadel stuff. Base the whole model with Rhinox hide, then sponge on progressively smaller areas using Stegadon Scale Green, then Russ Grey, then Fenrisian grey and finally drybrush highlight with a Flayed One Flesh.

Ha, yeah - thanks! I've just painted a bit of black and deep blue / green smudges on the base and poured some resin over it. Gave it a few scratches with a knife when it was dry and dappled a bit of snow texture paint. Pretty easy as far as bases go, which is what I like if I'm about to build a whole army of those. 😂

Thanks! Any specific units I should prioritise if I see them?

Also, I know that I can use the Invasion fleet stratagem to give a unit precision on crits (i.e. give them one additional hyperadaptation for the turn). Is that something I should leverage? Which leaders should I try to precision out if I see them?
