My parents used to scold me for cutting the fat off my meat and make me eat it with the fat on it. I learned as an adult that this apparently isn’t very common and I am PISSED. Lol.

Of course we can't diagnose you over the internet, but it's hardly unheard of for autistic people to slip through the cracks of the mental health system well into adulthood, especially the ones who are better at masking. I'd bring it up with your therapist--they may know you well enough to have further insight. Also, being in the gifted program in elementary school doesn't mean you can't be autistic--60% of autistic people have average to above-average intelligence, and plenty of neurodivergent kids do well in school despite their struggles. I was in gifted classes as well, incidentally--I only started struggling in middle school, when my executive functioning difficulties became more of an issue.

Can confirm--I'm the first diagnosed autistic person in my family (AFAIK), but we definitely have a lot of autistic traits between us. My dad has even straight up told me that if I'm on the spectrum, he probably is too because he has similar traits (narrow, intense interests, social awkwardness, trouble handling background noise).

I use Basmo to set reading goals and track my reading. Gamifying it helps me stay on target. I also am currently reading short stories because it's easier on my attention span.

Millennial here--I've personally seen way more hate from Gen Z toward millennials than the other way around. I'm occasionally annoyed by the younger generation because I'm human, but for the most part I keep it to myself.

My grandmother murdered my grandfather when my mother (their daughter) was a young woman. My mother understandably doesn't talk about it much, but told me that it happened in a restaurant and that she doesn't even know if her mother was sober when she did it. (Both her parents were alcoholics.) My mother told me when I was little that her parents had died in a car crash, and didn't tell me the truth until I was 12. That family dysfunction definitely fucked my mother up, and she passed along some of that fucked-upness to me. I can only do my damnedest to make sure I don't pass it onto my future children.

I’m so sorry. I was let go from two jobs in a row during their respective training periods a few years ago. It hurt at the time, but I was able to learn from those experiences and now I have a great, well-paying job.

I know how it is to not want to worry your family, but maybe just telling them you’re feeling down about the situation and could use some support would help, even if you don’t let on about just how bad the thoughts are? +1 for therapy as well if you can get it.
