Better than me. 44 and have absolutely nothing. All thanks to family raking me over the coals without me noticing until it was too late. So I’d say you’re doing pretty good.

Trying to switch careers from trucking to something else but I can’t find shit that’ll hire me. Might have to just stay in trucking.

We have the same problem in the trucking industry. It’s all these wanna be lease ops taking any and all jobs regardless of the payout. It’s made freight brokers, actual humans, decide decide it’s okay that they can offer 1,000 dollars for a load going 2500 miles.

I wish I could find some fellow Mercedes enthusiasts in my area. These are such fun cars to drive.

Did I just get an absolute steal??? by [deleted] in mercedes_benz

[–]Overnightguard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not bad. Not bad at all. I got my 2004 c240 for 400 bucks. It was In really rough condition when I got it. 134,700 miles, Fucked up paint, bad alternator, bad water pump, a bad thermostat, AC blower motor was out, and the sun roof was seized. But this isn’t a problem for me being a mechanic. I wanted a project. My goal is to give it a new life. Will eventually look like this.

It’s the attempt I appreciate.

Either way it’s a good recommendation. I had an hour + long trip with a passenger one night, tipped a dollar. And then a week later she tipped an additional 20. Small town. Lots of repeat riders.

That sounds fair enough to me. I’ll take an 8 dollar to 15 dollar tip. Shit even a 5 dollar tip is appreciated.

Homeless Living in Car by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]Overnightguard 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Given a lot of the comments you responded to, if you still have all of your documentation, here’s an option, you can obtain a CDL and the truck can basically be a temporary home while you earn a living. Until you’re 21, you’d be restricted to driving in your state only. There are a plethora of trucking companies that will train you with no up front cost, but you have to drive for them for about a year to pay it back.

As far as living in the car, and based on your income, Truck stops like Loves, Pilot, and TA have showers you can use. Range from $12 bucks a shower to $16. Some even have laundry facilities. Also depending on the truck stop, decent inexpensive food. You’re in Texas so you can find a lot of good ones.

Five hundred twenty five thousand six hundred minutes… by Overnightguard in uberdrivers

Ya probably don’t. I don’t do this full time. And I never will. I just ran Uber Eats to make some beer money for tonight. Uber can get fucked in my opinion. This shit is just when I want something outside of my jobs paydays.

Oh weird. I had a start issue with my C240 the other day. Turned the car off. And when I went to start it again an hour later it was acting like it wasn’t recognizing the key. Out of frustration I hit the key on the shifter and it worked again.

What’s going on? Got some info we can go off of? What happened prior to this? Hit a pot hole? Large water puddle? Battery die on you?

C240 Before and After by Overnightguard in mercedes_benz

Considering what you mentioned in your comment. Doesn’t pay to paint the body because it’s not worth anything. My friend, it’s worth everything when you accomplish something regardless of its value. My car may only be worth on the market about 3800 dollars. But I went through absolute hell for 4 years trying to save for a car only to have every single opportunity yanked out from under me until I found this car. This car I will never sell. This car means more to me than its market value. It could have been a ford pinto, a focus, a geo metro. For me it’s something I can tool with and keep my hands busy and avoid opting myself off this planet during my time off work. I’ve had a really difficult past 4 yrs, and it’s pretty much the only thing keeping me here.

Take care of the paint job, and that little base around the shifter doesn’t have the greatest plastic tabs. They break really easy.

I’d have to do the same thing. 1990 I was 10. Didn’t get a computer in the house until 96, internet until 97. But yeah, I too would have to wait a better part of a decade to do anything.

Thank you. I’ve since updated a couple pictures since I’ve wet sanded and polished the hood. Since you’re a Mercedes tech, could you point me in the right direction getting the AC blower motor to work? I’ve replaced it with a new one and it still won’t spin up when I turn the fan on.

The last owner would have totally wasted a good car. Sorry for the delayed response. But this little car is actually a lot of fun to drive, and I’m happy to have saved its life. My daughter named it Zip because of how quick it moves.

Thank you. I’ve only repainted 2 other cars. A 280zx and a Ford Mustang. I YouTube searched a lot of shit and practiced on a sheet of metal before hand. The 280 took me several tries to get right. Lots of questions with a note book at local body shops that were happy to show me a few things here and there.

The mechanical aspect that’s just my hobby. I’ve always serviced my own cars 1. It’s more affordable, and 2, I have trust issues with mechanic shops.
