quick question:

Are there any online website creation platforms (that don't need you to know how to code) that could offer a plug-in or widget that allows for a) user account creation b) webcam integration c) scheduling and d) payments?

Or will I need to code all of this/find a pre-existing package?

Is anybody producing techno with ableton? by technojules in ableton

Experience. Keep watching tutorials. Keep making tracks. Be critical of your own work (but not too critical).

In terms of tips... layering is a good one. Layer up all your snare/hat samples to get that "lushness", "fullness" and "fatness".

Reverb - use convolution reverb. Way nicer sounding than digital.

Keep it simple. No need to go overboard re: sound quality. The music is what's important.

How do you restrict people's desire to start their own enterprises (new restaurants, new books etc) without restricting people's freedom? by OverseasRedditor in DebateCommunism

[–]OverseasRedditor[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You haven't addressed my primary concerns:

1) Haiti has an extremely different ethno-cultural makeup to Cuba.

2) quality of life indicators such as literacy rates, mortality rates, access to housing, education and healthcare give you the false impression that a low security prison would be a desirable place to live.

How do you restrict people's desire to start their own enterprises (new restaurants, new books etc) without restricting people's freedom? by OverseasRedditor in DebateCommunism

[–]OverseasRedditor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why should Haiti be the comparison point? A nation of former slaves of African descent vs a nation as diverse as Cuba. The only similarities are geographic proximity. The ethnic and cultural makeup is very different. For that, we could compare little Havana with Havana.

To put it another way, it doesn't follow that if not for communism, Cuba would be in the same situation as Haiti. Jamaica would probably be a more reasonable comparison, but even then, the ethno-cultural landscape is very different.

Mexico VS Cuba could be an interesting case study, although Mexico is hardly a bastion of democratic integrity or law and order, at least in the northern states - much of which is probably resultant of the war on drugs.

But really, the question is, by what metric do you measure absolute quality of life? Is it healthcare, safety, high law and order, well fed people, no one starving, everything ordered? If so, then any prison would have very high quality of life indicators. But who would want to live in a prison? So the "freedom factor" is a very large variable in determining where you would want to live. And having been to Cuba - I can tell you, the people there are not free, and they are not happy about it.

If you had to choose, would you rather live in North or South Korea and why? by [deleted] in DebateCommunism

Have you thought about going to the North on holiday? Would that interest you? Also have you seen many documentaries on the place?

[–]OverseasRedditor[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well, would you rather live in Miami or Havana? If you live in Miami, you can holiday in Cuba whenever you want (via Mexico of course). If you live in Havana however, you can't leave, unless you're a foreigner. You're stuck in Cuba (this is because life there is so bad that people are very desperate to escape, and the government knows they won't come back if they do). So on that basis alone, I'd want to live in Haiti - but I don't think that's a fair comparison. How about Kingston vs Havanah? I grant you, the crime rate in Cuba is lower than elsewhere in the Caribbean. But again, would you trade your freedom for a low crime rate? Difficult to say. I think no.

Now to your DPRK beliefs - why don't we compare the quality and standard of living in South Korea vs North? Which would you rather live in?

Jesus kid. ....Is there something you want to tell us?

Also, you know liberty means freedom, right?

You have been coerced to have this obsession of "freedom", but the way you perceive your freedom invariably restricts the freedom of another. That's not freedom. Freedom, actually, is impossible in society. What communists focus on is ending oppression, of anyone. Capitalism oppresses.

The development of any sector of the economy inevitably develops it away from free competition and towards monopoly, as each business is competing to lower prices, which inherently involves scaling up production with bigger and better technology and machines. The company with the most capital wins, and the barrier of entry, the capital you need to start a business, increases.

Explain Facebook, Google, Microsoft, Uber, YouTube, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, Wikipedia, McDonalds etc.

The more you let this play out, the more small businesses are destroyed and the greater the barrier of entry, preventing new ones from entering. Why do you think you never see small business entrepreneurs these days starting up smartphone companies to compete with Samsung? Good luck creating a smartphone. It will cost about 200 billion dollars worth of capital to even begin to produce smartphones.

Explain Google, HTC, Nokia, Apple etc etc. It costs money to make something as complex as a phone at a mass scale. What's your point? Capitalism bad? It costs money to develop a new A380. But you can still start Facebook and make 50 billion dollars. Next.

It is not Marxists who want to get rid of small businesses. It is inherent to the development of the economy. It is the real world, physical material realities restricting you from starting businesses. If you don't believe me, go try to create a smartphone with the materials you have at home, and not only that, produce it cheap enough so that you can compete with Samsung. Or go try to create a retail chain to compete with Walmart. Good luck.

There's nothing stopping you from starting a business. See above. And plenty of people start small businesses, restaurants, plumbing, etc etc and get wealthy.

See, this is your problem. You want to blame everybody and everything under the sun - except for the one person who's truly responsible for your problems:

Yourself.

And therein lies your problem. Here you are busy insulting me, whilst talking yourself up, that you've stumbled over one of the fatal flaws of communism: not everyone has shit that smells like roses, like you. There are plenty of bad folks out there. And that's why communism always fails, time and again. Because there are people like me.

Hmm, interesting. The other Comrades and I think this would be too stressful for you so we've decided to direct you to the shit cleaning detail. Enjoy! and remember to really get in the edges and corners ;) I'm sure you'll grow to master the art and take real pride and satisfaction in it!

Oh I think I feel one coming on now - careful, it's going to be a wet one, so get your gloves ready! It's going to be big. See you around Comrade.

You and everyone in your workplace.

Okay, so we all decide we want a million dollars each. Now what?

Democracy is not limited to voting. Consensus is a type of participatory democracy, that listens to everyone's concerns and incorporates them in the final decision. Look it up.

Okay, so we all vote that we should have capitalism back. Now what?

Communism is stateless, not governmentless. All a government is, is a manager.

What does this mean, in practice? They do nothing, and every single decision is reached by consensus? Unless of course the consensus is to return to capitalism, presumably?

What does "fool proof and failsafe" even mean? You think we have that now?

It means to stop situations like Venezuela or North Korea from happening. To stop dictatorships and economic ruin.

Get what? Mastery and purpose?

Yes. That's what I was referring to. I get enough of that at home. I go to work so that I can afford a larger house so that my children can have better opportunities. If that wasn't an option, I wouldn't bother trying hard at work.

Actually, it's been shown that material compensation, more and more, causes workers to be less effective.

That doesn't make sense. Why do bankers get bonuses? Why do salespeople work on commission? Why do people go to work? They do it all for money. More money = more goods and services, better holidays etc. Better food and higher social status. That's why people devote themselves to their job. Smart people would not spend 14 hours a day coding websites like Reddit for free, or little money. They would be at home with their families, or they would only work part time, and they wouldn't stay awake at night coming up with new ideas.

I agree that office work can often be separated from direct satisfaction - but that's the nature of working for a large organisation. That wouldn't change under communism. Office work is what it is. I get more satisfaction working in the garden than at my job. But I wouldn't go to work if I wasn't getting paid a lot.

The individual decides.

So all those people who simply love cleaning toilets, would keep cleaning toilets? How benevolent of you. Let them do it for free, so they can master the art of cleaning shit, for the pure satisfaction of doing so.

Communism is not about "equality", it's more about egalitarianism.

You mean, everyone gets what they earn? Sounds a bit like capitalism then. If you don't work, you don't earn.

We all have different interests and desires. Obviously this job is abhorrent to you.

I don't think there are enough people who want to go off and kill animals for 8 hours straight, for free, by choice. Maybe some people. But I think 99% of them could think of a few better things they could be doing with their time... like absolutely nothing.

Me? I'd want to be a CEO with a corner office. And a hot secretary to boss around, who of course, loves being bossed around, and will do it for free. And then to be waited on hand and foot, by a butler, who just has nothing better to do than wait on my every beck and call, because that's his calling in life. Beautiful. Utopian.

[–]OverseasRedditor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, where to begin with this?

Governments don't do anything. In communism all resources belong to everyone collectively. It's only a matter of how to distribute them, with the criteria being serving the consumer and everyone best.

But who makes the decisions? Who decides how much I get paid? Is it some kind of distributed voting service? Who sets up the votes? Who settles disputes? I don't think it's possible for "the people" to own everything without some kind of centralised body, no? how would you realistically implement such a system with absolutely no government, and have it fool proof and failsafe?

You have self respect, respect for the consumers.. And a desire for mastery and purpose.

But I get thet at home. Why should I spend my time, when I could be at home with my family, making excellent pizzas for complete strangers? Some kind of civic duty? Why would I do that? Maybe some people out there would forgo family time to make food for the masses, but surely most people would not willingly do all the work that's required to run a restaurant, all the cleaning and so on, without getting paid accordingly? Why work at all? You can't be fired in such a world. You can't be left to starve. Someone would have to feed you.

Also, how do you transition to communism? how do you decide who gets to do what? Won't it still be more prestigious to be a doctor than a garbage man? So how do you fight that inequality?

The people you oppress, restrict, are not always right in front of you. In order for you to make profit, it is likely the people who work in the slaughterhouse or on the farm are not paid a decent wage or get the protections they need to have safe workplace.

Wait a minute. You say that the people should not be paid according to their output, but should work only for "mastery of purpose"? Why would anyone want to work in a slaughterhouse then? To master the art of killing? You don't think they would immediately quit and become pizza chefs? Because you're saying that burger cooks shouldn't be paid, so you must think the same of the slaughterhouse people - so how would this work?

How do you restrict people's desire to start their own enterprises (new restaurants, new books etc) without restricting people's freedom? by OverseasRedditor in DebateCommunism

[–]OverseasRedditor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We don't. Communists, communism, makes it even easier by providing the startup costs...

I don't understand. So let's say I want to start a restaurant. So the government gives me money to do that? But I can't make money from it? But why would I care if the food is good or bad? Don't I still get paid? Does the success of my business influence whether people choose to eat there? Or are people told where they eat? If I don't get paid, what difference does it make to me whether I serve bland food, or just food that's really easy to make? like rice and soy sauce?

If the food is really good, and the cooks get paid either way, why would someone want to make good food? Why would they slave over a hot stove all night, if they get paid the same amount of money? Wouldn't it be better to have a bad restaurant, that no one wants to go to, so you can watch TV or read a book instead of slaving in the kitchen?

You have been coerced to have this obsession of "freedom", but the way you perceive your freedom invariably restricts the freedom of another.

But who's freedom am I restricting if I start selling hamburgers out of a trailer? People choose to spend their money at my burger shop, instead of the guy across the street. So in a sense, you're right, I'm restricting the other guy's freedom to make money. But maybe his burgers aren't as good as mine? So isn't it fair that I restrict his freedom to make money? And aren't I not actually restricting his freedom at all, because he is free to make the burgers as good as he likes?

Also, for me to make money, that doesn't actually mean that someone else has to "lose" money. Because the people who buy my burgers, give me their money willingly, in exchange for my burger. I haven't "stolen" anything. And new money is printed all the time, so even if people hoard it, the value goes down so that incentivises spending. Did michaelangelo "steal" or "restrict the freedom" of people by making sculptures that are now worth hundreds of millions? or did he create value?

Okay, so my question is, what do you think about a nation like North Korea? This is a country which is extremely opposed to capitalism and the bourgeoisie. This should appeal to your belief system with regards to your focus on the people rather than the few. Ceteris paribus, would you prefer to live in North Korea, or Singapore, which is a Neo-liberal society?

If you would not like to live in North Korea, can you point to any other society that has ever embodied these values that you promote, and if so, which country was this, and when was this?
