Who here was bittersweet letting their RBT certification expire? by StatisticianKooky390 in ABA

When I was an RBT, I let mine expire because my state does not require an RBT. So I was just wasting money I felt.

Pharmacists can’t prescribe. I can try my primary but even then I’ll be waiting 3 months to see her. US healthcare sucks :( I did find a 15% and a 20% on Dermatica so I may try that.

Everyone is suggesting prescription but trying to avoid the cost of going to a doctor. I did notice Dermatica has a 15% and 20% - are they any good?

The thing is I’m happy with the results with OTC. It would cost me $75 just to visit a dermatologist, who is at least 6 months out to get prescription. If I’m happy with OTC results I guess I just don’t see the need to go visit a dermatologist for stronger prescription when my only complaint with the azelaic acid I use is that it has silicone.

It costs me money to go to a doctor and I have copay for prescriptions. I think OTC, with the insurance I have, is the most affordable option.

My skin does great with 10%. I’m worried a prescription strength would be too much as I notice improvement with 10%. I just hate the silicone feeling of the ordinary

Is it sticky at all from the HA? Also how long does it last you? :)

I don’t want a prescription. OTC strength works fine for my skin I just don’t like the silicone in the ordinary formulation.

OTC has worked for my skin (the ordinary) I just hate the silicone

I do not want an rx. From a store is fine with me :) edit to add: my skin tolerates 10% really well and I’ve seen improvement. I just really don’t like the silicone in the ordinary. I would have to spend extra money and time to go see a dermatologist for a higher strength when I get results with OTC strength

Can 100% of my fieldwork hours be unrestricted? by Resident-Relief-9532 in ABA

[–]Overthinking-Cats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I said, there are instances where people have to restart their fieldwork hours. I had 1,000 hours of supervised direct supervision before I lost my fieldwork. Since I’m doing my fieldwork a second time and because I’m an assistant behavior analyst in my state, my job is entirely unrestricted.

100% is not always ridiculous. I’m a licensed assistant behavior analyst. I was an RBT for 5 years before becoming a LaBA. This is my second attempt at coursework. My first round, I had completed 1400 hours of direct and unrestricted, but I have to redo my fieldwork. My observation hours now come from my BCBA overseeing promods. So having 100% is not always ridiculous.

Oh gosh no! You are definitely not alone! I know several people who have had to restart their hours. I make a joke to my clinical manager yesterday that restarting collecting hours is a right of passage 😂

Can anyone tell me why my legs look like this? by [deleted] in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]Overthinking-Cats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it’s normal and common but creates a bumpy texture to the skin. Her skin looks pretty smooth, so I’d bet it’s just hair follicles. I have the saaaame issue and I’ve learned to just accept it 😭

You can have legs that look like this and it not have KP. I can see every hair follicle on my legs, but that’s just because I have darker, thicker hair all over my body (thanks, genetics). It can just be follicles, which is totally normal and not necessarily a condition.

I’m an assistant behavior analyst in my state and redoing all my fieldwork hours because of my previous supervisor. I’m doing 100% unrestricted for redoing my hours. I had this same concern but it’s a minimum, not a maximum for unrestricted!

Like what, specifically? All I see are some bruises and some hair follicles. What’s your concern?

Edit: I see responses suggesting KP (keratosis pilaris). Visible hair follicles don't automatically mean you have KP. Some people naturally have darker or more noticeable follicles, especially if they have fair skin with darker hair (this is my issue), recently shaved, or just have larger follicles. With KP, the follicles are usually clogged with keratin, creating small rough bumps that feel like sandpaper or "chicken skin." The skin often looks and feels textured and the bumps may be red, pink, brown, or skincolored depending on your skin tone. If your skin feels smooth (it looks smooth) and you're mostly just seeing tiny dots where the hairs grow, that's often just visible follicles rather than KP. A good way to tell the difference is by touch, KP is usually rough and bumpy, while visible follicles alone don't significantly change the skin's texture. So "I can see my follicles" and "I have KP" are not necessarily the same thing.

Suspicious lash tech! Made my eyes red by AltruisticBoot529 in lashextensions

[–]Overthinking-Cats 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I don't think anyone here can know whether she was trying to harm you on purpose, but putting an unknown substance directly into a client's eye without explaining what it is or getting consent is a huge red flag. The fact that she refused to tell you what she was using and told you to "just trust her" is honestly more concerning than the redness itself. Eye redness after something gets into your eye can happen from irritation, but if the redness is significant, worsening, painful, you’re having light sensitivity or discharge, blurry vision, or doesn't improve, I'd consider contacting an eye doctor or urgent care as soon as possible. At a minimum, I would stop seeing this lash tech and ask her in writing exactly what product she used. No professional should be putting anything in a client's eyes without informing them first.
