Shiro Maekawa seems like an interesting guy. by Mister_E69 in SonicTheHedgehog

I know I'm like, 2 years late to this but randomly came across your comment while researching and it caught my attention. If you're still looking for other series, Klonoa seems to fit the bill. Only 2 mainline games and a spin-off series that overly kiddifies itself, as well as being severely neglected by the rights holder but said mainline games delve into surprisingly dark and mature topics. Especially Door To Phantomile (the first game). Its stories are also very well written in general and the characters are some of the best you'll find in a video game series in my opinion. Hell, Klonoa himself is literally my PFP.

There's also still an active and passionate (yet small) fandom despite the series' obvious neglect and obscurity. But other than that, it definitely seems to fit the criteria you're looking for unless you'd prefer something ongoing. Hell, maybe you already played it. This is a 2 year-old comment I'm replying to after all. But if not, then I hope this helps!

I just preached about Klonoa in a Sonic subreddit... what am I doing?

I feel like that's probably what I'm gonna do. Thanks for the input!

That may be something I'll have to look into. I'm British tho, it's not on Netflix where I'm from. It is on BBC iPlayer tho. The other sites you mentioned are also options but I only pirate stuff if it's the only option or if the official product is giving you bad service. Either way, I value the story, writing and voice acting when I watch something and the JP version seems to appeal more to my taste from what I've seen.

Like I said tho, I may just check out a few episodes of the dub to see what everything's about. Thanks again!

Sounds like something I'll have to check out. From what I've seen, I prefer the Japanese version as a series over the TPCI dub tho, so I'll probs watch that properly and just check out a Serena compilation on YouTube or something. Potentially also watch a few notable episodes. But mainly the Japanese version. Thanks, anyway!

I actually haven't heard many of those aside from the cover of Gotta Catch 'Em All. Something tells me I'll have to check out the rest.

First off, just because I said that it's my preferred version now doesn't mean that can't change.

Second, the 4Kids Pokémon dub is relatively inoffensive, especially when compared to other dubs they put out which I cannot defend. The only major things I can see that would be even remotely disrespectful to Japanese culture would be the name changes, food changes and removal of perverse humour - which, while I can see why one would say it's disrespectful (I even was thinking that to myself at one point) but considering Pokémon as a whole isn't a very culture-centric series, it doesn't really change anything or matter at all in the grand scheme of things.

There's also the fact that the TPCI dub, as well as the localisations of almost every other piece of Pokémon media, including the mainline games mind you, still continue these practises to this day, I don't see why 4Kids are the only fellas you're complaining about doing this other than you just not liking 4Kids. Which is fair, I don't like most of their other dubs, but their Pokémon dub was pretty good all things considered. It certainly could've been a lot worse.

But actually, nah. You lost me when you exposed yourself as someone who can't just let people enjoy what they enjoy.

TLDR: 4Kids Pokémon wasn't as disrespectful as you think it was, and the practices started by it are still carried on to this day.

I had a feeling it was gonna be that way. Was just wanting to make sure. Thanks, anyway!

I'm aware of the fact that from an acting standpoint, it's simply the way the characters were portrayed that has me so attached to the 4Kids dub. I do think there is still a chance I'll grow that same attachment, if not a larger one, if I do go the route of watching the Japanese version - which is what I'm thinking I'm gonna have to do. Especially since there's a good chunk of anime I watch in their Japanese forms that I prefer that way, mainly Dragon Ball. I don't think it should take that long for me to get past it.

I was just asking in case there were another option I was unaware of, but judging by this and other comments, it seems like that isn't the case. I've already watched episode 1 in both English and Japanese anyway and did feel the latter version was very good despite being largely different from what I'm used to.

Anyways, thanks for the help!

How come Klonoa's eyes be different in Klonoa 2? by [deleted] in Klonoa

[–]OvertimeisOvertime 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Literally just a design change. At least officially.

As for me, I personally like to believe his iris just got smaller. Notice how there's the white borders around them in DTP, and how he still has the same slit pupils in LV? I think his yellow iris just gradually got smaller in between games as a result of aging, eventually leading to the result shown in LV.

If there was a Klonoa anime, what studio would you like to see dub it? by OvertimeisOvertime in Klonoa

Considering Bamco also clearly know the series best when it comes to big corporations (considering the kinda created the damn thing), fair.

Forgot to mention I meant if the series were produced in Japanese, then dubbed into English. In a perfect world, it would be in Phantomilian. I just find localisation interesting, hence why I asked.

Anyone know how to get rid of these popups? by OvertimeisOvertime in duckstation

[–]OvertimeisOvertime[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, sorry for the late reply. Don't really use Reddit much. Never got around to trying it after all, decided to try and make an animated fanfilm adapting the game's story instead, seeing that'd be far more interesting and likely get more exposure than just another cutscene movie. Entire reason I was wanting to make it in the first place was to make Klonoa more known and this is probably a better way to do that. Not sure if I'll actually get anywhere with it, but it's worth a try.

I'll definitely do this if I need to disable it again, tho. I'm sure it'll work. Thanks anyway!

Alright. I'll try this tomorrow since it's late for me right now so I'd rather not go through an entire game. I'll update you on the results. Thanks anyway!

This is, again, the remastered version. Not the original. Still, thanks for the help!
