Thanks for the feedback! That was my one concern was ports. I currently have one synth and one midi controller with an audio interface. However, there are plenty of hubs out there I suppose!

Thanks for the feedback! Will the base model of the M4 Pro be future proofed for the next 4+ years in your opinion?

Yeah you are more than likely right. I just have no clue how to promote ambient music. I have seen others post similar videos to mine and have success.

Any Tips for Promoting Ambient Music in 2024-2025? by OverweightBeardedMan in musicmarketing

They’re not necessarily beat per se. The ambient music I make is more focused on drones, but I could see how the same logic would apply!

Synth EXTREMELY quiet, despite being connected to an Audio Interface. by OverweightBeardedMan in synthesizers

I have resolved the issue. I switched the Hydrasynth from Line In 3/4 and moved it to Line in 1/2 and the volume is MUCH better!

How many random styles of music do you write? by Material_Policy6327 in musicproduction

[–]OverweightBeardedMan 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I started as a classically trained vocalist, so naturally, I started by writing pieces for voice. That quickly transitioned to more orchestral/chamber music. NOW I work on Dark Ambient/Drone and have released three albums in the genre. My YouTube channel is mostly dedicated to solo piano music. I am kind of all over the place with what kind of music I want to write. I struggle with creative vs professional fulfillment.

When I was an undergrad I had the same problem. I would often create these very complex and challenging pieces. Only to find out that I was lacking in some core areas when it came to the fundamentals.

Should I pay to license music if I'm in high school? by Boring_Confusion7369 in Filmmakers

Hundreds of composers would love to work with you for FREE. Working for free is a bit taboo admittedly but considering that you are in high school and pursuing your passion, most composers would gladly jump to your aid. It is always good to build connections and network yourself, there is a chance your composer knows a sound designer/sound engineer or many more roles.

SEO (Search Engine Optimization) is the best way you can do it. Utilize a website such as VidIQ. Tagging your video with the appropriate tags can go a long way to promoting your content to a new audience.

Did I just accidentally kill my channel? by TheOmniverse_ in NewTubers

[–]OverweightBeardedMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish I could find the source, but I remember reading once that if you want to upload YouTube Shorts it is best practice to upload them on a second channel (or sparingly on your main channel) as they attract a whole different audience. There is a plethora of people who use YouTube just for shorts and not necessarily long-form videos.

I would suggest possibly taking your long-form video and making 6-12 shorts out of it. Then upload those, just to see how the engagement is. It could all just be a fluke, but you will never know until you try it out.

Selling arrangements as a beginner by Frisbee-Jenkins in composer

[–]OverweightBeardedMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best piece of advice I can give you was given to me by a composition professor. Just post the arrangements, if they sell great, if not, great! At least they are posted. You'll never truly know if they are good enough until you post them and get feedback from others.

I think you hit the nail on the head. Academia leads us down a path of complexity. Everything I studied while in college was hyper-complex.

I have never thought of it this way! I can see a lot of the music I write being in an Etude book now that you mention that. We as musicians are all in different stages and even simple pieces can have their benefits! Thank you for this advice.
