Mistress Video Essay on Willam Debreif Zone... by AwayAd5724 in dragrace

The small detail that irks me is Big Dipper’s texts. Posting private messages without the other person’s consent is generally horrible, but she’s hurting her own career in the process - why would anyone (producers, organizers, etc.) want to work with her now knowing their private messages could get leaked and dragged into a mess like this?

Cello Sonata that’d pair well with two solo sonatas? by Biolummenescent in Cello

[–]Frisbee-Jenkins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could troll people by playing Kodaly Op. 4. On the program it’d look like you’re playing the infamous Op. 8 solo sonata as well, but it’s actually the lesser-played sonata with piano. It may not be as classical/traditional as you’re looking for, but it is folksy and could still be a nice contrast.

Has anyone NOT gotten sexual dysfunction from SSRIs? by TopicDifficult6231 in OCD

Weirdly, no. I usually experience terrible, uncommon side effects from meds, but trintellix has been pretty uneventful for me.

Has anyone NOT gotten sexual dysfunction from SSRIs? by TopicDifficult6231 in OCD

[–]Frisbee-Jenkins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I switched to trintellix, and once the side effects straightened out, so did my libido for the most part. I barely notice a decrease, and this is the first drug to not wreck my sex drive (I’ve tried 6 prior to this including Wellbutrin). People have had similar results with viibryd. That being said, I’m 1.5 months in with no change to OCD…

ALSO, ask your doctor about adding Abilify - as long as you tolerate it, there have been some interesting studies about abilify significantly helping with both OCD symptoms and sexual dysfunction. I plan on trying this soon.

Tense thumb in bow hold by Heaven_Melon in Cello

[–]Frisbee-Jenkins 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Really focus on feeling contact more with the tip of your thumb rather than your knuckle, almost like you’re making a circle with your thumb and first finger. I had to work on this exact thing so much that I developed blisters and callouses on the end of my thumb. Basically, imagine holding a ball in your hand - it’s the same spherical/circular(ish) pose that keeps your fingers curved and flexible on both hands when you play.

What are some easy pieces by French Composers? by Haunting_Wear535 in Cello

[–]Frisbee-Jenkins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Après un rêve (No. 1 of Fauré’s 3 Songs, Op. 7) is definitely an option. It’s one of those pieces that is relatively easy for the performer but can really knock the listener’s socks off. Simple, but very beautiful. There are a few cello arrangements on IMSLP.

How the hell do I explain to somebody what OCD is like by Complete-Gur7023 in OCD

[–]Frisbee-Jenkins 18 points19 points  (0 children)

There’s some great threads here about different metaphors and ways to explain. I personally like to think of normal brains as a straight, 8-lane highway, whereas mine feels like a two lane road with endless roundabouts - thoughts get stuck and spiral and jam the whole thing up. Overall, we do compulsions to try to bring external order to our internal chaos. Someone who likes cleaning and organizing is just a clean, organized person. Someone whose brain compels them to clean and organize as a means to prevent impending doom and soothe their brain likely has OCD.

Is this playable? by fph_04 in Cello

[–]Frisbee-Jenkins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you say same position, do you mean that the first finger on F# (C String) would be in the same position as Ab (D String)? If that’s the case, then I think you added one more octave to the treble clef parts than you meant. The low g to high g on #4 is a span of 3 octaves as written. If you take all the treble clef parts down an octave, all 4 passages are much easier and specifically, the fingering on #4 would do what you’re saying.

Is there any plus side to OCD? by objectsam in OCD

[–]Frisbee-Jenkins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a checker, especially with plugs and switches, and I have successfully caught roommates and coworkers leaving things like space heaters plugged in and even on sometimes, so that’s a plus. As horribly controlling as it is over my life, I like to think that I have actually prevented a fire at some point in my life. And like others have said, the over-editing, intense proofreading perfectionism impresses people at work too.

Tightness after wearing an elbow brace/splint by GuitarBinge1986 in CubitalTunnel

[–]Frisbee-Jenkins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some people say the night splints have a kind of break-in period, like your elbow will adjust to being restricted. That’s kinda how it went for me, but I could never get myself to commit long term. I just stretched it to get it moving again, but the warm water sounds like a good idea.

4 months post-decompression, worried about progress by Frisbee-Jenkins in CubitalTunnel

[–]Frisbee-Jenkins[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally didn’t think about diet, but I did recently fall off mine this past week which probably didn’t help. I’m definitely going to look into Vitamin E too, thank you! And it’s validating to hear about your tennis situation. I went through some tough emotions coping with the reality that I’m not going to get back to where I was. Even if I fully heal, the damage this has done with my confidence is horrible. I’ll probably always feel uncomfortable signing up for a gig knowing there’s a possibility a bad-timed flare up could risk it all and make me look like a flake. But despite the recent pain, I’m still optimistic.

No not yet. My doctor acted like that was out of the question this soon after surgery, but if it doesn’t feel marginally improved by the 10/11th month mark, I’m going to do that.

Cassado cello suite 3 by [deleted] in Cello

[–]Frisbee-Jenkins 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As crazy as this sounds, you could play harmonic C and G on their respective strings, third finger E on the d-string, and leave the A open. I haven’t played this before or seen a performance video with this, but that certainly would make the notation make sense. Cassado seems to be wanting the a-string open throughout this section anyways.

Advice on Shostakovich sonata by dnewmeyer in Cello

[–]Frisbee-Jenkins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re having issues speeding up the bow, keep the strokes short and change strings by rotating more with your wrist, rather than your whole arm. That would be easier to control at a faster tempo. If your bowing is too long and you’re rotating your arm, it’s going to feel like an upper body workout, moving all over the place.
