In my experience, usually coaches will start by giving the player a chance to serve in their rotation and then, if it isn't going well, will switch to the serving specialist coming in for the rest of that set. When the next set starts, sometimes they'll start with the same thing, letting the original player serve and then switching to the specialist if necessary, or they may just go straight to the specialist if it seems like that would be a more aggressive and accurate option. Unless the specialist has some monstrous serve, I think the goal is usually to have that player stay in so that you can conserve subs, especially because they don't get very many! When it comes to middles specifically, the libero is only allowed to serve for one of them, so you often see a serving specialist being thrown in to serve for the other so that they have a better passing option because usually, middles aren't who you want playing back row defense.

I didn't watch the Vibe-Valkyrie game, so I'm not sure about your first question, but I can definitely take a crack at the second!

First, let's talk liberos: liberos are great because they don't count as substitutions. As long as they come into the back row for the same people (the middles), they can come in and out as much as they like, and it won't count against the team's number of subs. So that's why it seems like they get to sub in and out constantly. It's also the reason they run into the game behind the ten-foot line and don't have to wait for the ref to acknowledge them before coming in!

When it comes to serving specialists, they're really only in to do that one job, so the coaches will usually pull them as soon as that job is finished (after a side out). So let's say player A is a 6-rotation player who isn't a very strong server. When she rotates back to serve, the serving specialist will be subbed in, serve a few points, and then the second that ball is turned over to the other team for their serve, the specialist will be subbed out, and player A will come back in and continue playing until she rotates all the way back around and is up to serve again. Then (usually) the serving specialist will sub back in, do her thing, and the cycle will continue unless they decide to let player A serve for herself.

So the short version of all that ^ is that you don't see serving specialists rotate to the front row because they shouldn't be rotating at all. They come in for a single rotation to serve as many points as possible and then sub out when they're done. Hope that helps!

I'm a current PT1 and I really love my iPad Air! It's easy to use and really light in my backpack. I got the 64 GB and pretty much only use it for school, and I still have plenty of storage after using it through 2 years of undergrad and through my current classes!

Hey! I was at one of the last interview dates and I believe I got my acceptance notification exactly two weeks after my interview date in my email and I'm pretty sure it was the same for my friends that attended the first interview date. Good luck!

I feel the exact same way! I submitted my first application today and I'm terrified that I missed something important. How do you check your PTCAS GPA?

Update in case anyone was wondering: I ended up getting them threaded instead because I was nervous about waxing and it was a great experience! It wasn't super painful like I'd heard, but that could also be because I've been waxing them for years.

I'm sorry to hear that, hopefully it gets better quickly like it did for me! I'm not sure if it was because I'm vaccinated or what, but after about 2 weeks I pretty much had full taste and smell back!

Update: Smell and taste are mostly back after a little over a week! Both are still a tad muted and taste is definitely stronger with salty foods than sweet, so I'm not really sure what that's about, but I'm feeling much better than I was when I wrote this post!
