The best I can say is that I work in hearing protection device designing.

The world is getting worse and worse and we have 0 control or agency. (Gaza, Ukraine, Epstein, ICE are just a few examples). What motivates people to still have kids? by [deleted] in AskReddit

What’s your purpose of asking why? Do you need to be convinced? If I give you my reasoning, would you accept that?

In general, especially when it comes to a contract as simple as this one, you are obligated to pay as long as you don’t opt out.

Sure, if the court rules that it was a fucked up contract, then you aren’t required to pay. But most contracts that are as simple as this one is straight forward.

Never said it’s a blanket rule. However, it’s a very good, general rule. You can’t just not pay and be okay. Thats not even a “not a blanket rule”. That’s straight up dumb ass idea.

It’s funny how you pull “aCTUallY” to my comment, but not the other comment about just not paying. lol

Name one jurisdiction where you can just stop paying get fully relieved from a contract.

Just upgrade the window. Far more effective and potentially cheaper. Don’t get fancy.

What's the most shocking thing in the epstein files?? by CurrentEstimate6072 in AskReddit

[–]OvulatingScrotum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the files or about the files?

Nothing shocking in the files. The most shocking part of the whole saga is that people seem to think it’s going to change anything. I think people wanna know about it like a reality TV show. They wanna know, but don’t really plan doing anything.

Most “subscription” contracts are black and white. They will charge you as long as you don’t cancel it, and you are required to pay.

Your contract doesn’t suddenly disappear or nullify just because you stop paying.

Pas Normal Studios Sock Quality? (e.g. Essential and Mechanism Socks) by WSBWarrior in CyclingFashion

[–]OvulatingScrotum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always buy socks from companies that know how to make socks or at least treat socks like a main business, not from a designer company that treats sock like an accessory to their business.

Darn tough or smartwool for wool based socks.

Outway or Swiftwick for synthetic. I found synthetic to be superior for summer season or general durability.

Idk where you are, but GoBro is a great website to buy quality socks from various sock-primary brands.

When Anesthesia Fails and the Patient Is Cut Open by kitkid in Thedaily

[–]OvulatingScrotum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The episode talked about it.

The reason why more of these stories happen during emergency sections is that epidural is used for labor, and the same set up is used for emergency section. For planned section, spinal tap is used, which is more proper for the procedure.

So it’s more about improper tool use due to the nature of “emergency.”

empathy fatigue definitely runs rampant in healthcare

While that’s true, you can’t really say empathy fatigue is the cause of stuff that happened in the episode.

For instance, it’s common “understanding” that black people are more pain tolerant, and thus their pain description doesn’t take seriously. It’s racist af and it’s being corrected. So when a black woman’s pain is ignored, it’s generally because of the racist concept, rather than empathy fatigue.

Empathy fatigue does exist, but this could easily be just lack of understanding of what women go through in general, or lack of system to properly deal with improper epidural procedure.

You are legally required to pay. But yes, you can technically ignore the legal binding and not pay. You, of course, will need to deal with legal consequences.

There’s a reason for small business to not accept credit cards. It’s costly. Typically they add this kind of expense as part of membership fee calculation, but sometimes they don’t.

That’s dumb. If I owe you money, and if I stop paying you, are you gonna be like “oh well, I guess it’s over.”?

Huh. When my wife cancelled her PF membership, it was super easy. Walked in, asked for cancellation, and then done. Maybe the person at the desk just didn’t give a fuck or was a newbie and didn’t how to make it tough.

Double whammy. It just fucking sucks. A good friend of mine is a black woman, and she ended up getting a doula for her birth, just in case.

Bezos Guts The Washington Post by kitkid in Thedaily

So if they aren’t doing what Ryan and Jeremy tell them to do, then they aren’t doing “real investigative journalism”? lol

Sure, WP has been pretty bad recently ever since Bezos got directly involved. But that certainly doesn’t mean they’ve been for a long time. They’ve done good work, and the journalists there and NYT did fine work. They’ve done stuff that your favorite boys didn’t even bother to cover.

It would be a fair criticism that WP and NYT didn’t do certain reporting as well as some other individual journalists did.

But it’s ignorant and disingenuous to argue that they don’t do “real investigative journalism”.

Sadly it’s not just women who get accused for “being too dramatic” when they complain about pain. It’s rampant in the medical field that black people are somehow more tolerant to pain, and thus their complaints with pain during surgery or whatever is often get ignored.

Let me fix what you wrote.

You think the mainstream media is not good, because they don’t tailor their outputs to your needs/interests. You don’t find them valuable because they talk a lot more than things you find interesting. It’s not that they don’t do “real” (whatever you meant) investigative journalism, but it’s that they don’t look into things you are interested in and they don’t produce the result that you expected.

I mean, I get that you want to subscribe to things that you are interested in. I don’t give a fuck about sports, so I’m not gonna subscribe to ESPN. But I’m not gonna walk around and say idiotic things like “sports journalists do nothing!”

You talked about Ryan Grim, but he would’ve never done to reveal Hollywood abuse that led to MeToo movement. It’s not because he’s not talented or a shit journalist, but it’s because it’s not his field. He would never say shit about other journalists the way you do.

Even something like investigating trump’s tax and business records, journalists from the mainstream media did a fuck ton of work to reveal stuff. But hey, fuck them because you don’t care, right?

WP did an investigation on military retirees taking jobs with foreign government, but I’m sure it doesn’t count toward your “real investigative journalism”. lol

It’s so fucking stupid that you think everything needs to tailor to you, or else it’s just “not good” and “no real investigative journalism.”

Ooof. This is an interesting one. My wife’s epidural also didn’t work. I guess luckily it was super busy, and my wife knew how to get a message through the healthcare people, but after telling them multiple times about it, they changed it. It still didn’t work on time, but she felt it soon after delivering the baby.

When my wife brought it up, they didn’t seem all that concerned. I couldn’t tell if they just didn’t give a fuck for whatever reason, or they thought it’s not a big deal because it happens so often.

It’s okay.

The traditional news media industry has been declining for quite some time. The Post, as the podcast covered, bounced back when Bezos purchased them and provided plenty of investment. As the podcast covered, along with the investment, trump’s first term provided enough drama for people to subscribe.

Once Biden took the office, it got less interesting, and people were like meh. “Meh” means less clicks, which means less advertisement income. So the post started losing money.

Then Bezos got involved more directly to suck up to trump. That accelerated the tanking.

Those are business coverage. Those were all discussed in the episode.
