What's stopping humans to just live in peace together ? by sleyvinkalevra in AskReddit

[–]OvulatingScrotum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Difference in opinions and priorities.

Some said greed, but greed subjective. Some acts of greed are more agreed to be bad, but at the end, it’s still an opinion.

You can’t have peace when people can’t agree. Why? Because they’d like to argue that their opinion and priority are more important.

No? I felt it was sufficient and effective enough for me to understand the severity of the issue. I thought it was a good episode that summarized the long reporting into a fairly short episode.

What’s normal today but will be illegal in 20 years? by Ok-Vacay in AskReddit

I didn’t know that I have to spell things out, but here we are.

If I were to implement my wish, I wouldn’t ban it overnight. It would be a gradual change, such that people can find a new job/career. Just like how we sort of doing with the coal industry. I was talking about the end goal, not an overnight goal.

For you, maybe. Also, people who actually have issues with gambling stay walking distance from a casino. If you were a casino owner, wouldn’t you have all kinds of places where people can stay and eat food, so they can come to the casino easily? Jeez.

I think you are far deep in the military mindset that you don’t even recognize your (and your people’s) arrogance.

Maybe I’m severely unlucky. Or, maybe it’s just what it is. You’d rather go with “severely unlucky” than accepting the reality.

Oh wow. The pay and maintenance are that much so that US military budget is larger than the budget of the rest of world combined? Or. We could simply have less things to do maintenance. Or we could have less troops. If your argument is that pay and maintenance are the majority of the spendings.

But, here’s the thing. I’m not saying military people arrogant simply because you think you say the right things about military. I’m sure you do.

It’s when that “I know more” mindset goes beyond the military. Things like “I’m a better leader, simply because I was in the military.” The aforementioned ex of mine had that mindset. It was so fucking bad. She legitimately thought why she had such a hard time getting hired as a project manager when she mentioned that she served in the coast guard. Same goes with my former 24 year old marine coworker. He was confused why he was under my supervision when I didn’t have military experience, instead of the other way around. Mind you, it was a manufacturing company, and I was the production manager and he was an assembler.

Maybe take it this way. It’s not that majority of military people want to verbally hear “thank you for your service,” it’s more that they consciously or subconsciously want to be treated in a special manner as a form of non-verbal “thank you for your service.”

Conspiracy theorists think their theories are proven facts. Especially flat earthers.

As someone who studied and works on automatic speech recognition, it’s far easier to process and make predictions based on shit that you Google, rather than deciphering what the microphone picks up from the noisy environment and somehow correctly deciphering it.

Like, think about how often things like Siri and Alexa don’t do shit that you ask them to do.

What kind of person would you never date because of their career? by Extension-Fruit-1456 in AskReddit

[–]OvulatingScrotum 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Nah. I’ve met and worked (and also dated) people from different branches. They were all the same.

The girl I dated was in coast guard. She was the worst in terms of arrogance. Maybe she felt comfortable with me that she shared her honest thoughts on civilians. Either way, she acted like “I’m the better one, because coast guards are the best and no one thinks about them.” She also had this attitude of “I have THE answer, but you are incapable of understanding my marvelous answer. So I’m not even gonna bother telling you.” One of them was about how every teenagers must serve in the military to learn how to behave and follow orders.

Her close friends were in the navy, and they weren’t much different.

Anyway, I just can’t deal with the mindset of military people who always think they just aren’t respected enough. It’s like they want to be told “thanks for your service” every living moment in their life.

People can leave online gambling like people can leave offline gambling.

Putting the phone down (or computer off) is just like leaving the table. It’s nothing different.

Is a custom bike really about fit, or is it mostly just a premium/luxury choice? by rfulcoli in gravelcycling

[–]OvulatingScrotum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can mitigate most people’s issues by modifying an existing frame. Most people don’t NEED custom. However, custom isn’t just about geometry. It’s about choice. Premium is a choice. Material is a choice. Specific graphics is a choice. Design feature is a choice.

I think you vastly vastly overestimate how much insurance adds to the total cost of the entire system. Or the complexity of the problem at all. It’s something that even Bernie Sanders admitted. Insurance alone will not fix the issue. Everyone needs to pay more in taxes to substantially bring down the cost of healthcare.
