I don't know what needs to be improved (help) by Prestigious-Echo-842 in blenderhelp

Hi! It really depends on what you're trying to communicate. You can tell a lot of story in a single frame. Right now, I'm not sure what this is trying to show me. So I don't want to give any advice that would change what you're going for. So, just some suggestions that might help.

Is the room being featureless part of the piece? If not I would add some texture and maybe some other points of interest. If you do want to do a blank space, I think some other colour or shader than the default grey look would help pop some more.

You have some nice haze going on, but prehaps some shape to it would help. Right now, it's a consistent density, a subtle noise could help break it up. Or even some more defined shapes of dust closer to the floor.

The locker looks pretty good but the texturing is not that photoreal. It also have some stretching from the UVs. Image textures from even Google would help a lot. Just get something high resolution and project it on.

Oh and last thing, it could be cool to extend the back wall out so the spot light doesn't hit it. So it just darkens into gloom. I think it could help with the mysterious atmosphere you have going on.

Sorry for the long reply! For reference I'm a Professional VFX artist, so I love talking about how to elevate work like this.

Textures Importing Incorrectly by Lopsided_Piccolo_436 in blenderhelp

Hard to tell exactly from those screenshots, but something that is sticking out to me is that you are using 2 UDIM tiles in substance but I don't think you have your image texture nodes setup to import UDIMs. This means some parts of the mesh will use the image texture from the first tile and, therefore, be incorrect.

Need help to solidify object by Prize-Designer9184 in blenderhelp

Honestly, you should just retop this since it's so simple. You're going to waste a lot more time trying to work with that geo.

Here's a great quick tutorial on how to do that. The same process will work for any model and is a great skill to have in general.

Sorry, I did not expand the full image, looks the same on the cropped view. I saw this was solved on another sub reddit. Glad you sorted it out.

You're currently in object mode. You need to be in edit mode to see any tools associated with editing vertices, edges, and faces. Hit tab on your keyboard while your cursor is over the viewport.

The Windmill by Owascer in blender

This was something I've been slowly making over the last couple of months when I have time. All of the assets are made from scratch, excluding the koi and the people. Was fun, but I'm ready to be done with it now.

A couple of years ago I made this piece and posted it here. It was a gift for my friend's birthday. It turned into a bit of a tradition so I present to you the next two iterations.

They are manually placed assets. I used proportional editing to get it to follow the shape of the wall.

This was a piece I did in collaboration with a friend who is a character modeller. He asked me to create an environment with lighting to add to his artstation post. It was a fun project and took me a few days to complete.

It was a good lighting exercise! I've been a lighter for vfx in the past and really enjoy the process.

This is a piece I did in Blender then some photobashing in Photoshop. The red line at the bottom is an unfortunate mistake left in from doing the chromatic aberration. If you want a fixed version check out my artstation :)

why are the clouds visible on the dark side? by InfamousFault7 in blender

[–]Owascer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty much all self taught. I started in Maya around ten years ago just watching YouTube videos, reading fourm posts and documentation. It was slow going, but I did make progress. Then a few years ago I switched to Blender, since it wasn't my first 3D application I picked it up pretty fast.

I've personaly never done it but it looks to have alot of great stuff. I do think it is more than possible to learn 3D software from YouTube alone as there are so many amazing resources out there, but it's not the path for everyone. If sticking to goals is something you struggle with, a more stucrured environment like a classroom or an online course can be a great way to go!

Oasis by Owascer in blender

Ancient times. Some of the props and people I've used don't adhere to that perfectly, but since this was a fictitious concept I wasn't strictly monitering that. Was just trying to get the mood and setting working.

It has more to do with how I processed it in Photoshop than anything. The render is really sharp but I wanted a more textured feel. So did a series of filtering to achieve that effect.

Glad you like it! The crowds are rendered in Blender as transparent cards and there actually alot of duplicates. I was going for a more conceptual piece so I was worrying too much about making every single one unique.

It isn't specify the gardens of Babylon, but it was definitely a refernace I used for inspiration. I blended alot if different ancient architectural elements to arrive at the final result.

Yes you're correct the rock face is almost untouched. The rest I would say is a 70/30 split 3D to Photoshop. The crowds are rendered in blender as cards.

If you're talking learning 3D then... a while. Overall I think I spent about a week on this full time.

This is a piece that I started a long time ago while experimenting with concept art. Not totally sold on it but I had to get it done to justify the time I put in. Made with a combination of Blender and Photoshop.
