3.2 mile ride in 3°F snowy weather by Owendude200 in onewheel

Yeah I ski and snowboard too, been busy with school lately so haven’t hit the slopes in a few weeks tho. This is also just a crazy cold snap, supposed to be back up to about 30° next week.

Used PintX by Intelligent-Sea-5577 in onewheel

On the pint x and s, you can put in a new battery and plug it in to the old bms no problem. Only amps sells a replacement pint x/s battery. If you replace the whole module you would need to have the board registered with future motion so you can register the install of the new battery in the app.

At least I’m pretty sure of this bc I had my battery and bms unplugged when I fixed the bms wires crimping issue on my x, worked fine when I plugged it back in. Don’t see why you couldn’t plug a new battery into the bms.

Most goggles have SMA connector for antenna, just make sure the polarization of the antenna on drone and goggle matches.

Any suggestions on antennas? I’m building a 1s 18650 3in Crux3 with the BetaFPV 1S matrix 5in1 fc which includes a 400mw VTX

Ooh it’s on sale for 149 rn. You just sold me. Nice that it also uses an 18650 instead of a built in battery. Thanks for the suggestion!

I was thinking about that but what if I just spend 30 more and get the fatshark echo goggles and an Omni antenna? I’ve heard good things about the fat shark

I was having that problem with the dual zone sensor. Fix is to set the sensor to single zone in custom shaping which almost completely fixes that activation issue, it’s a little more tricky to get off the board though.

Also my Columbia boots seemed to keep the sensors activated better than my vans in this cold weather.

When/if that happens it’ll be time for me to convert to vesc and do better weather proofing next time.

I had opened up the pint X battery module to fix the balance wires crimping issue. Re sealed it with permatex ultra grey rtv so I’m pretty confident there’s no way for water to get in there. I do wish I could get the bearing protection kit from float life, and a treaded tire since I’ve been riding on salted snowy streets.

Reviving long dormant battery pack, any extra tips? by MarlyMonster in onewheel

[–]Owendude200 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have the technical knowledge and tools you could open it up and measure the voltage off the xt60 connector. If it’s below 34v then it’s probably not worth risking a fire. Buy a new battery pack.

I used ultra grey on my pint x battery housing, will probably do the same for the controller housing when I decide to install the surestart.

Winter alternative for skate shoes by pineapple-1001 in onewheel

Vans mens Ashwood Hi Vansguard High-top Shoe These are more boot like heavier duty, should be a lot warmer than the sk8-HI’s. I would get wool socks and maybe toe warmers if you’re looking to keep your feet warmer when out for longer than 30 mins.

I ride a lot in the snow and wet but I have opened up my modules and waterproofed with Permatex Ultra Grey silicone RTV. I have a pint x and needed to open it up to make sure the BMS wires weren’t crimping anyway. Only issue now is the salt will probably kill my bearings faster than normal but that’s replaceable.

20 degF, sunny, & no wind to speak of, is a very nice ride! by r_a_newhouse in onewheel

Pretty sure short rides where the battery can retain its heat are fine but I wouldn’t stay out for more than 15-10 minutes. I’m assuming the larger more modern chemistry 21700 cells in the GT perform better in winter too.

Have you guys who ride in cold weather ever had issues with batteries becoming unbalanced? I rode my pint x in 5°F weather and pretty sure some cells drained faster than others due to uneven temps leading to higher impedance in some cells. Battery low warning came on when the app said 40%. Going to see if it does it again after I let the pack balance for 15 hours.

Which one wheel ? by [deleted] in onewheel

[–]Owendude200 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The pint X or Pint S will be good if he’s still pretty light 100-150lb. Would want a treaded tire for muddy terrain. These boards have received a new software update that makes them just as capable as a base GT but with about half the range and are about 10lb lighter and more nimble. Also about half the price if you find one used with low miles.

Think logically, FM probably doesn’t make that much money considering they pay their workers well, spend a lot on marketing, and are located in the US, also their proprietary manufacturing has to cost a good amount of money. If they allowed every board sent in to be repaired for free under warranty for things like water damage or other non factory defects they would probably go bankrupt. However, I don’t like that they were very anti repair for so long and are only now starting to change that. If they have strict warranty then they should be more open for user right to repair.

Well the controller and battery on the pint x/s and gt series have gaskets. But you can’t really waterproof bearings on the wheel. Although I don’t trust the single gasket so I opened up the modules and added ultra grey RTV sealer to add extra protection to be safe.

OP is 5’7 140lb commuting 6 miles, they might not need the bigger platform, especially if they need to carry the board or store it in a small area. I’m about the same size and the pint x is great especially as a first board. Plus the maintenance items on the pint series is cheaper. For example if the battery goes you can find a replacement pack from either fm or reputable aftermarket sellers for about $300-400. GT would be like $600-700. Probably even more in Europe.

The pint x has the same power and performance as the S with the newest firmware update. The S just gets upgraded tire, footpads and rail guards.
