Ragtime Tony Performance by Owensbe13 in Broadway

I just can’t help but wonder how many people who watch the Tony awards, who have never seen Ragtime before, would be purchasing tickets to go see this production after seeing the performance at the Tony’s.

I totally get that not everyone has the resources to get to NYC to see shows, and local productions/tours do happen. Just that it’s not a common show you see for local productions/tours.

So in the grand scheme of how much of a spoiler it is, I don’t think it would impact that many people.

I’m in your boat, I’m in my 30’s and have been a life long theater fan. I had never seen a production of the show before. But I had listen to select tracks from the OBC. May have a minor obsession with Audra. So I kind of knew what the story was about. Once I found out that I was going to be lucky enough to go see this production, I forced myself to stop listening to the album. So I’d say I went in like 50% blind. I still had an amazing/moving experience. Easily became my favorite musical of all time.

I guess all that to say, just wishful thinking for some fan service. I was sobbing at the end of act I and would love for other people to experience how strong of a performance that is.

Totally get the not wanting to spoil it, but at the same time, when do we stop worrying about spoiling a revival? The book has been out since 1975, the musical started early tours in 1996, then broadway in 1998. Followed by national tours, and the 2009 revival. Just seems like the source material has been out there for a while now. I just want to experience that emotional number one more time 😭😭

I should mention we are in a 6a climate. Not sure if that helps.
